In highschool I worked a little bit on building flying models similar to this one

Now I'm looking to make an electric powered aircraft and was wondering if anyone had some tips or tricks of the trade for this kind of thing

Use the small motor with gearbox, and medium sized battery. make it about 5 feet wingspan. About 2 pounds max. Still use tissue to cover it. add landing gear. use 3 channel RC (rudder, elevator, throttle) The throttle can be electronic. Add a rudder, but you can scale up your existing design.

Here's one of my electric RC planes.
This is about 5 or 6 years old.
