Do you know of any businesses that have dropped Office in favor of this Google service? Do you know others that depend on this?
I've gotten one of my clients hooked on it, she loves it.

At my last job a few of us used to since we could all edit an excel document at the same time; which was a very annoying thing when someone had the document open and no one else could edit it.
Other than that, no one I know uses it.

I use it at my job every once in a while when dealing with partner companies in other parts of the world. The one thing I hate about google documents is that every 10 seconds or so when it saves it always makes the page jump to a different spot than I am reading or typing. I HATE that.
I have used google spreadsheets for a few things not business related and I think that works pretty good. But there are drawbacks to that also... exporting to excel doesn't always copy the formulas correctly, and the formulas don't always update when you insert new rows and things. very annoying. But it has its uses.

Interesting... I have done some of my own Ajax programming, and the jumping to a different spot has been an issue there as well. It's probably a shortcoming of either various browsers, or with Ajax technology in general.
Ajax itself is pretty awkward and complicated to work with. Straight http was designed only for fetching entire pages.

Yeah, the whole thing is a huge ugly hack of http, which is not designed for this. It's a miracle it works as well as it does.

Why even think of Google Office in a world where Open Office is available?

I would never use Google Sheets or Docs for work.
I work in finance, with loads of confidential information. I just don't trust Google enough. Plus, since I'm a power user, I would miss so many functions that I have in Excel, not to speak of macros...

Can you edit the same doc at the same time collaboratively in OpenOffice?
