I've tried calling the two CompUSAs in my area that are going out of business, but no one is answering. I'm not surprised (but they're still open.)

I was wondering if anyone else here knows if the discount from the liquidation is wholly separate from, say, an Apple Education discount?

I can get 10% for education, 5% for government, and my local CompUSA has 10% off computers (even Macs.) That'd be 25% off if they can stack the liquidation discount on my edu/govt discount. I'd go buy my laptop ASAP if they stack with Apple's discounts.

On a side note, right now is a good time. A couple weeks ago they were only 10-20% off stuff (5% for computers.) Now they're 20-40% off stuff (10% for computers.)

last time i checked, the only time you can use your student discount for apple stuff is in an actual Apple store. trust me, I've tried. i don't know about your gov't discount, but I think it'd be the same deal.

you can't add discounts to other discounts; i bet all of your discounts say the same (read the fine print).

for example; if you have a 50% off coupon, you can't take 2 and get it for free...

you may get the higher of the 2 discounts. like where i work emplyees get 20% off. but if a book was discounted 30% we would only get the 30%and not both. but if the book was 10% off we would only get our 20% off.

They don't offer student discounts. The 20% discount was separate from any mail-in or factory rebates. So you could technically get it cheaper.

I was tempted to get a Studio Display and resell it on eBay. They had 23" Apple Cinema Displays for $720.

I was an Apple Solutions Consultant, an Apple employee, working out of a CompUSA store for two years, and I've also worked for CompUSA, and CompUSA does not honor the student discount pricing, because they don't get that money back from Apple, and they aren't technically licensed to sell to the education market. Honoring it, without getting the money back from Apple, would cut most of the profit out of the sale. Some stores would give the student discount, but only on the condition that you bought Apple Care, as that allowed them to still make some money on the sale. That, however, was technically against Comp's policy, and the store manager had to approve it; very few did.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Yup. The only way to get an edu discount or any other special discount is to buy from an edu store or the Apple Store (online or off). The only discounts CompUSA ever had were employee discounts.
