Zunes not selling even at 30% off.

When I was the CompUSA liquidation sale, they had Zunes and accessories for 30% off. The shelf was practically untoched. One lady was on her cell phone taking a picture of it, then talked on the phone, then asked the sales clerk if they still had any iPods left. Clerk said they were all out, then she left.
Even at 30% off they don't sell. If only I had a camera, I woulda taken a picture of it. The entire store was practically gutted, except for the Zune shelf.

I was in EB Games recently and someone walked in and asked what Zune accessories they had. It was the first (and only) time I've ever heard of anyone actually ask about, or even use, a Zune.
The guy behind the counter's response was kinda funny. Motioning to a row behind him he said, "Just the stuff you see here. Cases, headphones, covers, you know, all the general iPod stuff."

This makes me happy.
I tried using a friend's Zune. The whole thing just felt clunky to me. No wonder the thing is bombing; the iPod is 10x easier to use. And prettier.

Microsoft has a poor track record when it comes to hardware, lets hope their poor design continues. The only think with MS is their dogged determination. I'm not worried about v.1 of the zune, v.3 or v.4 probably, they have the deep pockets and the fear that apple will own the music business to keep them in the mp3 market.

Like what? Intellimouse is good. The Xbox was a smash hit, the 360 (minus the ones dying) seems to be doing fine.

I never bought an iPod because it is made by Apple. I bought it because it is the best. Still, I see people with strange mp3 players that are a mess to use and look like it too.
I don't know. There seems to be a certain amount of people who will settle for second best. I'm just not one of them.

Uh...what does that have to do with the quality of its hardware? It's gained a huge following and broken into a previously entirely foreign market with great success.

Was hardware quality the question here? I thought the question was just how their track record with hardware is.

Zunes suck, even in red and orange. (Orange, wtf?)
As an aside, went to the local liquidation for our CompUSA, and was told that things would bottom out after 40% then get sent somewhere else. That sucks, because even at 40% off Frys is still cheaper, and of course, the 'good' stuff, HDTVs, Blu-ray players, high end computers are stuck at 10-20% off, and the apple stuff is *gone*. (And I wonder why they're closing half their stores?)

I think the new orange shuffle is very cool and would've bought an orange nano over the green one if they were that colour.

I guess I interpreted it to mean quality. I don't think Microsoft's done badly with hardware, but a lot of it (like selling the Xbox at a loss) is because they can afford to throw money at whatever they choose to.

If you think the Xbox is selling well, think again. The Wii is about to supplant it, and Microsoft is feeling the heat!

Your point? Microsoft sold 8-9 million Xboxes in a year. Nintendo sold 6.5 million Wiis in 4 months. By the end of 2007, the Wii will likely pull ahead of Xbox in total sales.

Yes, it looks that way here too. However a lot can change in 8 months.

The problem is... Microsoft tried to copy the iPod, when in reality... they needed to copy the entire concept from the ground up. The iPod is NOTHING without iTunes. The iTunes -> Computer -> iPod relationship is paramount. Until Microsoft releases a REALLY cool iTunes contender for the Zune... Apple shouldn't be all that worried.

From the minimal creative thinking one would deduce you're of the Nintendo generation.

Yeah, but I think the point is that the razors weren't successful enough to sell enough blades. And AFAIK Nintendo's consoles are sold at a profit.
