To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, the United States Postal Service is holding a contest to win a trip to Los Angeles (and some eBay coupons as consolation prizes) and a vote to choose the main Star Wars stamp design to be selected for a special ceremony. The site is uspsjedimaster.com, and you can vote for your favorite stamp once a day. Currently Darth Maul is winning - I say we should try to get an original trilogy design chosen as the main stamp.

Perhaps so, brass. . .
My brother and I were thinking about picking Vader, but then it occurred to us that it would send a rather sinister underlying message for the USPS to choose the dark icon of the Empire as its showcase stamp.

Personally, I want to see a Star Wars stamp made from this picture.

I picked Han and Chewie. Chewie is the only action figure ever to have the honor of Tower Guard (that is, he gets to stand on the top of my Power Mac!).

Just added a vote for Yoda. While Han and Chewie *are* the dynamic duo in the Star Wars realm Yoda is the one who brings continuity among all six films. He is the force-wielding rock upon which all the narrative of lightness is built.
Yoda teaches the master Qui Gon who teaches the pupil Obi-Wan
who becomes the master Obi-Wan who teaches the pupil Anakin.
AND
Yoda teaches the pupil Luke who becomes the master who defeats Anakin.
Anyway, where do you see the total votes for all of them? The page I went to just showed the highest vote getter, Darth Maul.
I think it would send a VERY bad signal if Darth Maul or Darth Vader won. That to me says the forces of darkness in our world are more appealing than the forces of good. (Hokey sounding, I know. But as a generalized sentiment it seems appropriate.)

HTF do you vote? It says to click on one but nothing happens...
I "voted" for the Falcon.

Yoda wasn't in the original. The droids are the only characters in all six flicks.

It looks like I was wrong about Darth Maul being number 1 because right now they're showing an X-Wing.

Vader isn't in Episode I. We don't see him 'til Episode II.
Hmm... I guess Obi-Wan is in them all, too.

I saw one of their R2D2 mailboxes going to work a couple weeks back and nearly choked laughing.
It was in front of Symphony Hall in Boston.

does anyone actually still mail items anymore? i'm all paperless billing and bank online. any personal communication is done via email.
now that i think about it, guess the only thing i do send is a birthday card to my grandma each year and that well, won't last forever (not being mean, just saying)
$.41 cents...why not just make it a nice round $.50? goodness.

More importantly, put it somewhere you won't change the price in 2 years... jesus...

I used to agree with that sentiment, but then it was pointed out to me by my grandmother that if the USPS took a higher increase than they needed for operations, extra waste and inefficiency would inevitably creep in and justify another increase anyway.

Yeah, they're out. The design is a bit plain - a bell (maybe the Liberty Bell) - but the concept is very cool. There's no reason to use them right now because they're the same price as regular stamps, so I bought 20 and put them away. I think the expectation is that people will buy them, put them away, forget about them and continue buying stamps at the then current rate.

Every penny of the postal increase is a huge deal to places that send a lot of mail. A one penny price increase can mean hundreds of thousands of dollars to many companies and organizations.
