Reading a very interesting book at the moment... And please bear with me, I'm a Mac Wannabe stuck in a world of Windows
iWoz - Book about Steve Wozniak.
Got through about 50 odd pages and one thing that strikes me is while Bill Gates is a very shrewd and smart business man there is a huge difference between him and Steve Wozniak. Steve is a true Geek! *-:O) He was always building electronic devices since he was 6 years old and really knows the computer from the ground up including programming. There! Anyway. It's a very interesting book and you Steve is a pretty smart cookie. Anyway. I get my next cash injection for computer goodies in March 2009 - its going to be interesting, Windows "Seven" plus new PC or Mac OS X (finally?) and a shiny stylish new Mac?! Never know. One thing for sure, Windows Vista has failed to "Wow" me in any way, yet I'm constantly Wow'ed by Mac (design) and OS X (UI Consistency).

Woz is a very cool guy. I once heard Steve Wozniak was going to speak at the school where I work and I got all excited. Of course, it turned out that it was some other Steve Wozniak. Bummer.

One would have thought there were very few Steve Wozniaks around.
Woz is a genius. His engineering of the Apple II hardware was incredible. And he's a nice guy. Jobs was and is an incredible marketer, and in modern times he's been an incredible corporate head. Gates was just shrewd and lucky. If Apple had had its act together 15 years ago, the Mac would have been the dominant platform.

That's why I see the Mac platform as being better engineered that any other computer platform.
One of the reasons I joined this forum is because of iWoz. I am entranced. I want to learn more and prepare for the technology that really excites me - Mac and OS X.

I really enjoyed the book too. It was great to actually hear the tales straight from the horses mouth.

I read iCon (about Steve Jobs) and really enjoyed it. I might buy iWoz and give it a read.
Windows "Seven"?

I started reading that book and just gave up. Woz constantly telling me just how brilliant he was as a kid, as a student, as a researcher, as a junior scientist got old really quickly. It completely changed my mental image of Woz. I always saw him as a pretty cool geek, but in that book he comes across as an annoying braggart.

Didn't take me long. I have an old, very old G4, 450MHz Mac on my desk. I upgraded the memory to 1.25Gb and installed OS X 10.4.x - runs quite well actually. Amazing how such an old machine can run such a new system and not struggle much at all.
Lots to learn, having fun though. Quite different to Windows. =)

The Woz and David Pogue will be keynoting at EdTech next month. I hope they do a round table discussion, my work won't pay for the keynote.

That's the exact setup I have right now. I'm saving up for a MacBook Pro.

I should be getting a MBP in a month or so. I currently use a Sawtooth that I've upgraded.

Me too. I was hoping for pictures of a bunch of fat, pasty, middle aged men and women running around in cardboard armor hitting each other with plastic swords.
