F1 is better than both.
Never really saw the point of Indy, it's like some weird american version of F1 without the interest.
NASCAR
How anyone can sit there for hours watching cars go round in circles is beyond me, and people think cricket is dull!

Nascar, at least in those races cars pass each other. indy and f1 they just chase each other, and unlike f1, racers actually drive their cars instead of push buttons on a steering wheel.

NASCAR for me, I do like Indy as well though. More drivers in the field make it more exciting for me in NASCAR, plus I have several drivers I follow. I pretty much like all racing overall. Each has it's own style and strategies.

Speaking of rally racing...
I finally started tuning into SPEED to see if I could catch some. But I never see anything other than Indy, F1 or NASCAR. Is there some 'rally season' that I'm not aware of? Or is it just next to impossible to watch rally here in the states?

I think that has more to do with the style of race (not to mention the budget of F1). If NASCAR/INDY had to turn both ways (speaking of real driving ) and actually use their breaks throughout the season, they'd but putting in SMT pretty quick. I forgot which race it was (Indy or NASCAR)... but the announcers were reporting that some drivers were getting blisters from shifting because they were not used to road tracks.... Just my .02 of course.
I do have to admit, I am a bit of a closet NASCAR fan... but I only watch for the crashes.... since there really isn't any cornering to watch...

You need to watch the short tracks (Bristol Martinsville) and road courses (Infineon Watkins Glen) then. Plenty of action there. Road courses for ones complaining about right turns, and short tracks for the tempers. 43 cars on a half mile track running 3 wide is pretty hard NOT to get hit. Can turn into bumper cars at times as well. FINISHING the race at all can be hard enough.

So you're saying the most unnascarish race is actually interesting to watch.... so ... why are you a fan again?
And also, the fanbase is still mostly hicks and whatnot, the cars all look the same except for the stickers, and they have nothing in common with the roadcars. If you want to see brutal racing, watch some WRC. Sometimes only about 1/4 of the entrants even finish the race.

I was giving HIM an example what fix his bill, not mine, first of all. I have no problem with any of the tracks I like them all. I dont give a ____ what the fanbase is, I only speak for myself. I'm so far from your label it's not funny anyhow. Also some of these short tracks not many make it with most not even in the lead lap. Pretty much something for everyone if they want. Either way to each there own, I can live with that. I've watched rally racing, monaco, F1, indy, trucks, iroc have no problems with any of them. All just different styles of racing, no reason to get religious and trip out because some aren't pegged on just one.

I'm not tripping out, I'm just expressing my opinion. No need to get all excited. I just don't see the appeal. At all. Maybe if I drove a big jacked up a truck with a rebel flag, I'd see the light.

No, I can see how certain types of people enjoy it. I do not understand how anybody who is a car enthusiast enjoys it. I do not understand how anybody with even a shred of college education enjoys it. I do not understand how anybody who voted for Kerry enjoys it. I do not understand how anybody who treats races equally enjoys it. I do not understand how people who find watching grass grow boring, enjoy it.

I agree with Rob. I don't remember the last time I saw an Indy or Nascar race where the driver went over a ridge and ended up in the woods, stuck in a tree, on his roof. Commonplace for WRC really. . . Oh and the track there is just wide enough for 1 car to get though. . . not 3.

WRC is great, but a nice mixture of WRC and group racing you can't beat RallyCross YouTube - Das Ist Rallycross
as for straight tarmac racing MotoGP is the best.

NASCAR and cool don't belong in the same sentence. Honestly, Im not sure it applies to indy, either.
Good call on the rally, though.

I know people with doctorates who enjoy it. I know automotive research engineers who obsess about it.

Indy is cooler, but that's not a very hard thing to accomplish.
NASCAR is the silliest way to burn fuel we have devised so far.
I will also have to agree with Rob and say that WRC has them all beat (with the exception of F1). Those guys go over 100MPH on f**kin ice courses fer christsakes, that takes balls.

NBA needed a gimmick; and it didn't work. it is far from FAN friendly. NASCAR is very fan friendly.

have you ever been to an NBA game? have you ever been to a NASCAR race?
i've been to both. and i can tell you the racing event is much more fan friendly; from being able to go into the pits and see the cars, see the drivers, interact with the teams & the pit crews...touch and feel almost everything (cept the car being raced in). not to mention all the events the sponsors of the cars have. like i said, there is more going on then the race itself.

Okay, I see what you're saying. Yeah, there's more for a person to do. But I'm not sure that denotes 'friendliness'. There's a lot more stuff at a NASCAR race in general. An NBA game is 40 people who have a lot to do before the game.

gotcha. maybe friendliness wasn't the best choice. the events that are before/during/after are made to get the fans involved.

I watched like the first race this year because there was a big deal about Toyota cars in Nascar...it was funny because some team owners kept connecting Toyota to Pearl Harbor in the year 2007. Proves to me that its a race mostly for inbreds and people stuck in 1861.
SCCA, F1 all the way!

I do miss watching SCCA races. I remember they used to televise them back in the day. They had a cool one from an airport.
