Oh my!

I've been waiting for years to get my hands on these new-fangled backlit LCD displays!

What do you guys think? Have you been holding out for one of these new backlit MacBooks?

I prefer my non-backlit iBook screen. I like not being able to see anything.

Also, who writes this stuff?
Apple CEO Steve Jobs today in an open letter to the public revealed that the Cupertino-based company is aiming to unveil its first Macs with LED backlight technology some time this year, confirming reports from earlier this year. LCD displays with LED backlighting consume less power, provide better color uniformity, make for a thinner design, and negate the need to include Mercury in the manufacturing process. "We plan to introduce our first Macs with LED backlight technology in 2007," Jobs wrote. "Our ability to completely eliminate fluorescent lamps in all of our displays depends on how fast the LCD industry can transition to LED backlighting for larger displays." The announcement foretells of liquid crystal displays with lower power consumption, improved color uniformity, and thinner LCD designs that should fit nicely into Apple's goals as an innovative company that produces some of the most competitive devices on the market.

In addition to its eco-friendlieness, LED technology also brings better light disribution and increased color saturation as well as less power consumption, resulting in longer battery life.

Not only is it redundant, but it repeats itself as well.

Not to mention that he says the same thing over and over.

The point is obvious: "Apple to ship Macs with backlit LCDs in 2007" is not a headline that is correct. All LCDs are backlit. What they want to say is that "Apple to ship Macs with LED backlit LCDs in 2007"

But they don't. And I find it funny. I'm sorry that was too far above your head for you to understand.

That's all well and good, but how is the power consumption?

Color uniformity has always been a strong selling point for me. How do you think these new backlit monitors will be?

I don't know. I don't think anybody would venture to guess yet.

Apparently you have to talk about your status with your significant other, perhaps a breakup or something like that.

I can't even start thinking about the color uniformity- I'm all wrapped up in rumors I heard about there being a slight "blurriness" to the screens.

anyone know anything about bluriness?

Can I still have my LCD front-lit as build-to-order option? My friends' M$ WinBLOWZ laptops are all backlit and they SUCK.

As far as I know, very few LCDs are front-lit.

The game Boy advance SP is one notable exception.

I think Jobs and Apple Inc. is doing everything they can right now to get Greenpeace off their backs.

As for LED technology itself, I've heard a few good things, but the blurriness is something that I've heard more about. I have no idea if it's true or not, but if it is, it's something to worry about.

Well there are several methods out there for eliminating the bluriness. Hopefully someone can help us out.

Taking the "could" out of "day", "drunken" is out of "being off work"...

A test for what, if I can ask?

Rabies, intelligence?

At the moment, one has to be tested for leprosy, tuberculosis, and chlamydia (amongst others) to get a work permit here, so I'm curious about this ACT.

Every country has different tests for various reasons, so please forgive me if I don't know this ACT.

Which one???

Sorry, I should probably end this derailment, as much fun as it has been, so that we can get back to the original topic and avoid a thread closure and/or a warning for me.

My apologies, and I hope you enjoyed the show.

The ACT and the SAT are standardized tests taken by high schoolers before entering college. In the English or Reading sections, some of the questions consist of a list of possible wordings of a sentence, and the student has to pick the best.

Back in the day, ACT and SAT were administered on paper. Front-lit, no less.

I took the ACT before they started including an essay as well. I liked that.
