Torontonians are relentless Leaf fans; no matter how poorly the Leafs perform, the fans will fill the arena. Because the fans fill the arena, there's no motivation for the team owners to spend serious money to get serious players.

While, by contrast, Flames fans only fill the arena if the Flames are doing well ...

Many other North American cities don't fill up the arena.

Boston has over 300 consecutive sell out games, and they didn't even make the play offs last year.
