GOOD! Sheesh, I've been there ONCE, a LONG time ago, and I wish I was only an hour away from there now (not just because my weather is getting hot already). My family goes there fairly regularly, and I'm jealous. (They can't just drive up to Austin, like I can, but that's a different issue.)
I am surprised the game was running on Windows... But not too surprised.

I thought arcade games used a custom OS.

I remember seeing an ATM with a bluescreen one time when I was driving between maryland and jersey. I have also seen linux crash on the 777 I was on (KLM airline flying from jfk to amsterdam) and it was a sight to see 300 little screens all loading the kernel together.

It's kind of odd that someone would mention going to Frankenmuth just to say where they found a funky game console. That made the thread confusing to me.
Anyway, arcade machines used to have "game only" OSs; they would ONLY be able to run a game, and the game included the OS/the OS had the game integrated into it. It's much less expensive today to use off the shelf hardware to do things like arcade games, so of course they go cheap and use something that there are tons of weird development tools for-like Windows.

You people take your Bavarian themed towns seriously. Obviously, I'm missing something.

Being so close to Flint and Saginaw, I am tempted to make the joke:
I'll be sure to duck next time.

I work for a German company in metro Detroit and sometimes, the visiting guys from the motherland will take a day trip up to Frankenmuth. I totally don't understand it. If I was visiting a foreign country, I don't think I'd want to go to a country town that was bastardized to look like a crappy town in the US.
Oh, and Bronner's needs to go. *shudder* That place is creepy as all get out.

I don't think you "get it". It is an area that was settled by Germans and a lot of people still speak German there today. It is not a "bastardized" version. it is genuine.
It's like Chinatown in San Francisco.

Hmmm. Genuine? Last time I was in Bavaria, I didn't see a store devoted to baby Jesus the size of Yankee Stadium. Nor did I see an endless swath of kitschy antique stores or souvenir shops that sold every conceivable piece of imported Chinese plastic crap imaginable. Even the "real" Germans that go up there come back laughing at how typical "American" it is.
I "get it". What started out as a place that some Germans settled, it has become a tourist trap destination.

Wikipedia says that
[test]The area was settled and named by conservative Lutheran immigrants from Franconia, (now part of Bavaria) in 1845. The German word "Franken" represents the Province of Franconia in the Kingdom of Bavaria, and the German word "Mut" means courage, thus the city name Frankenmuth means "courage of the Franconians".[/test]
‘Courage of the Franconians’, right. If these Franconians are so courageous, what's with all the Bavarian Pride crap?
[test]Culturally it is in many ways different from Bavaria proper, however. The ancient name was resurrected in 1837 by Ludwig I, King of Bavaria. While "Old Bavaria" is overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, Franconia is a mixed area. Lower Franconia and the western half of Upper Franconia (Bamberg, Lichtenfels, Kronach) is predominantly Catholic, while most of Middle and the eastern half of Upper Franconia (Bayreuth, Hof, Kulmbach) are predominantly Protestant, the city of Fürth in Middle Franconia historically (before 1933/38) had a large Jewish population - Henry Kissinger was born there.
During the Nazi period, Bavaria was broken up into several different Gau, including Franconia and Main-Franconia.
The dialect East Franconian German is very different from Austro-Bavarian language. Most Franconians will not accept being called Bavarians, but their insistence on this point is generally a lighthearted matter, especially in modern times. In fact, Franconians will most likely take umbrage at insults directed at Bavaria.
Even if there is no Franconian state, red and white are regarded as state colours (Landesfarben) of Franconia.
[/test]
That town is all wrong.

I was going to mention that, as well.
Frankenmuth indicates the settlers from Franken, not Bavaria (though politically, Franken is now part of the Bavarian state).
If any of these folks had even remotely genuine interest in their heritage, they'd at least note it.
If there is ONE THING a Franconian will let you know, it's sure to be that he's NOT BAVARIAN!
