Or are you going this year?

I'm thinking about taking the family to the outerbanks of North Carolina. I used to go every summer as a kid in the late 60s/early 70s. We used to camp at Cape Hatteras. I loved to visit the Wright Brothers museum and watch the hang gliders.

Gas prices might be a bummer.

Orlando for 9 days but then I already did this last week. No further vacation plans that I'm aware of, but then I haven't asked the boss (wife)

The Carolinas are beautiful. I've been on a few brief business trips to Charleston, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, and a few other places. But the forests, and mountains are nice from what I saw. Have a nice vacation on the Cape.
(yeah, gas prices are going to hit $5 IMO )

I'm heading down to Miami in a few weeks for 5 days of laying on a private beach with a drink in my hand. Strictly R&R. Then hopefully off to Tokyo in December, then again in April. I want to be part of Sakura Matsuri (the celebration of Cherry Blossums by consuming large quantities of alcohol)

I live in NC. My wife has told me to block off 4 days in June for my birthday. She won't tell me what we're doing though.

July 5th is Smashing Pumpkins in Asheville. August 4-5 is the Virgin Music Festival in MD.

I can almost assure you it wasn't in Grand Rapids. Maybe Grand Haven, which is close to Grand Rapids. There's not a lot of cabin area in Grand Rapids. It's a good sized urban area.

My family didn't take many vacations, especially since summer is our busiest time of year. Last year I went to New York for 3 days (for a wedding), which was pretty cool. I went to a Yankees/Red Sox game, which was a long-time dream.

This year I'm going to a conference in Tampa, and I might get to stay for about 3 days afterwards. The wife and I will try to find something to do there. We're saving up for a massive "real" vacation for as soon as she graduates. She gets her degree after two more semesters (not including two summers).

Anyone know something in the Tampa area we can do?

If all goes as planned... my SO and I will be spending 2 weeks in St. Maarten/St. Martin (not sure if we're staying on the Dutch or French side) this July. Awesome beaches.... great place to relax.

That was my first thought for a comment, but the Stooges were more physically based comedy, which we can't do for obvious reasons.

So did I when I was very young. My parents owned an appliance store on Garfield. We moved to a place on Long Lake for a few years and then ended up going back to Detroit but spending summers on the lake. Great memories... haven't been up there in about 10 years. I'm hoping to take my SO up there soon. My brother's band plays a few gigs each summer on Mackinac Island..would love to get up there again too.

The only thing worse than a thread about vacationing in Michigan is a nostalgic thread about vacationing in Michigan.

If I were in Michigan, I'd like to go on a tour of a brewery, and sample the local cheese farms.
Oh wait, that's Wisconsin.

Actually, Bell's is brewed in Michigan. They make one of the best summer brews available.

We'll be spending as much of August as possible away from Toronto and close to Lake Huron. At least you can breathe out there. Then 10 days visiting friends and in-laws in Europe (London and Germany) in fall.

London, Paris then south of France to my gf's hometown.

South Dakota for my dad's family's reunion.

Senegal for Christmas and New Years (and maybe a bit of work beforehand).

Beat that.

he very easily could have been on an inland lake you know; he didn't say...so don't assume it was a great lake.

there are several smaller lakes with camping and cabins on the west side.

and when you are in grand haven, the channel is to the north.
