Several times I've considered getting an HD TV, but every time I do, I realize why I decided against it the last time: Lack of content. Right now I have regular cable, so I'd have to get digital cable which is about 20% more expensive than the already outrageously expensive regular cable. OK. But even then, there are only a handful of channels available in my area. So once again, I decided against the new TV.
706 PBS (11)
710 CBS
735 ESPN HDTV
736 ESPN2 HD
737 TNT- HD
755 Discovery HD Theater
759 Altitude Sports & Entertainment HD
779 NFL Network HD
785 UNIVERSAL HD
788 HDNet
789 HDNet Movies
--Premium channels
790 HBO HDTV
791 Starz HD TV

PBS, CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, and the usual cable suspects. Of course the locals I get for free without digital cable.

A&E HD (fine if you like CSI reruns all the time)
CINEMAX HD

I have FiOS... and currently I have the above (different numeric channel of course) pluse NBC, ABC, Fox, MTV and TMC - minus the Altitude Channel. With Premium (which I do not subscribe to), you'd also get HBO, Starz, Cinemax, Showtime, Golf, and a bunch of others.
I think that choices are expanding fairly quickly. And to be honest, aside from the local networks (ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX), ESPN, Discovery are the only two I really tune into on a normal basis. MTV is cool when they show good concerts.

I guess part of my problem is that not all of my local networks, except CBS, broadcast in HD. So even though, for example, Lost in produced in HD, and sent out to some markets in HD, it's not in mine.

All the nets plus some boring nature channels. I think there are like five others, but I never watch those. Love being able to watch Heroes and Lost in HD, though.

The early 600's stuff is awful local stuff. The rest is actually pretty good. 750 and 751 are InDemand HD. Movies are around $6.95 each if I remember correctly. I've never rented one since they only have about 6 HD movies for rental, compared to the dozens on the regular InDemand.

FTA there WAS a BBC test, but that's now finished.
With subs there is Sky TV Via Satellite, which has
Sky Sports HD
Sky Movies HD
Sky Box Office HD (pay to view Movie channel)
Sky One HD : mostly US imports such as Lost etc
Sky Arts HD
National Geographic HD
The History Channel HD (look the Nazis in HD)
Discovery Channel HD (It's Shark Week in HD)
and BBC HD
Local cable (Virgin) can also supply the above but not Sky One HD, and not much extra.
