Three massive Cinema displays, a couple safari windows on each screen (note that he's checking Drudge), HDTV, a bunch of important looking documents/books. Looks pretty nice

Imagine what that will be like with Leopard's multiple desktops.

Yes, a very cool setup. Too bad he doesn't have room for an even bigger HDTV, though. And dear god...how can a person have that many papers on their desk? It makes me wonder...are they all new and need looked at, or are they mostly old documents that haven't been put away?

I think his office offers an explanation for his 20x the average electric bill. Those four screens probably require as much as my house.

Ugly frog on the wall, by the way.

man, he must be spending a bit on 'carbon credits' to have all that!

bit wanky for someone who did a movie about telling people to be more energy conservative.

Give him a break. He's multitasking. The sooner he finishes his work, the sooner he can switch off the lights.

I read a study that cluttered people are often times more productive than those who are super neat. Keeping everything spic and span ends up taking a lot of time that can be spent working on other things.

I read somewhere that cluttered people are slobs.

Anyway…

The ONLY thing remotely "sweet" about that pic is the 3 displays. The room is small, boring and messy. Plus someone took a big ol' dump in the chair.

what more do you need besides lots of desk space, a decent chair and as many monitors as humanly possible?

Well, considering that I'm a human being, something aesthetically pleasing would be nice. And what good is desk space if ALL of it is covered in crap? I'm no neat freak but that mess I couldn't abide by.

Yeah, so he's got three displays, big deal.

That office looks like Ground Zero. Jesus ****ing Christ, it's been—what, 15 years?—that people have been talking about ‘paperless offices’.

And never mind all the junk on his desk, just look at his computer setup. Hardly any room to move the mouse, no space to rest his wrists in front of the keyboard, a laser printer under the desk, a redundant fax machine by the window, a lamp that's on in the middle of day, and what's on TV anyway? Looks like some stinking music channel.

Just because he has 3 monitors, doesn't mean he only has one computer. I have multiple monitors with several computers.

I'm in the process of rebuilding it with a 30" in the middle.

How many keyboards does he have?

I think I see a laser printer under his desk too.

And one photo frame (hopefully of his family -- or maybe a pic of the earth?).

An Apple branded box on the shelf above him, looks to be an iPod box.

What else do we see?

Again, months later, I ask...

Why do you need all of those monitors?

I have 3 large monitors that I use for work. I manage hundreds of servers and need to have terminal windows up at decent resolutions so I can see everything that is going on without minimizing and so forth.

Sometimes I have to multi task and have multiple clients projects going and have a different monitor for each.

I used to think the same thing. Once you have two monitors, you can keep multiple tasks open and visible at the same, and work becomes easier. After being spoiled by two, three becomes a serious consideration. I'm not sure about 3 30" inchers though, that's kind of large. Maybe 3 20"s...

Sure you could justify 3, but 17 separate displays?

Three 30" screens.. for some reason I wanted to know how many pixels that was. Its 12,288,000. Would be a bummer to have a dead pixel in there .

For setups like this, Synergy is a really cool tool that can be used to share a single keyboard and mouse between multiple computers without any hardware required - a software KVM. To move between computers, just move your mouse pointer off the edge of your screen, like a locally connected display w. monitor spanning.

I tried setting that up a year or so ago and couldn't get it to work correctly. I think I'll give that a shot on my current setup at home since the iBook's screens surround the main display.

I don't get why some people think a lot of Apple/computer stuff makes a great setup. Look in the setup pictures threads, there are some really nifty setups, with a lot less hardware involved.

A "sweet setup" is comprised of the combination of hardware, desk, arrangement, clutter-freeness etc., IMO. His setup is not sweet by any of that factors.

A "sweet setup" is also defined by being "something I'd like to have." Which his setup has in spades.

According to an article Apple did about him he has a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro. I saw a pic of h im with a MacBook Pro hooked up to a 30" Cinema Display. He really needs to clean his desk. All those dead trees! Anyone notice the Apple boxes on the left bookcase?

Ya, some people are being too anal retentive about cluttered papers. Every top executive's office that I've seen has papers in piles everywhere. Obviously there are exceptions, but in my experience I've seen that busy, successful people work best this way.

Here is a rough draft of my new desk. I hope to have it finished within the next month. When it is finished you won't see any of the verticle boards in the background. The problem I have with my current desk, is I didn't plan out the finish work, and it never got done. This time I'm going to design all the finish work into this 3d model before I start.

I tried that kind of setup and I didn't go with 30" displays because they throw off too much heat. In fact heat, and not picture quality, became my main consideration because I didn't want to figure out increased air conditioning for my home office.

For what it is worth, 2x 22" Gateways, and a 24" Gateway (and a 37" HDTV tuned to CNBC off camera). I tried larger monitors but the heat cooked me out so I continued to downsize until I had a workable solution.

No, I'm not part of any government organization. People have different hobbies. I like to design stuff. [BTW, if I did work for the government, I could never admit it]. My existing computer setup has the front 2 monitors connected to my G5 Mac. The Monitor to the left is connected to both a Windows computer that I built and a Mac Mini (the monitor can support 2 computers). The monitor on the right is connected to my PowerBook. The Monitor front upper is a LCD TV. The monitors on either side of the LCD TV are connected to Quad Video Processors. The Quad video Processors are connected to 4 each VCR's so I can see what is on 8 channels at a time (no audio). I get audio from the LCD TV. The 4 little LCD's across the top are not used that much, in fact I took 3 of them down and don't even use the 4th one.

When I get my new desk finished, I'll have a 30" LCD front and center, and all the others all around. This time, I'll do the finish work (with blinky LEDs) so it will really look cool.

My new design includes taking into account that I may have to dissasemble it in sections for easy relocation. I recently completed a desk in my RV. As soon as Apple releases the next Mac Mini, I'll buy one and install it in the RV.
