Arena, great combination of light and colorful backgrounds. I love the first and third shot in particular (I'm partial to interesting portraits). I assume they aren't snapshots … how long did it take you to choose the location and composition?

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thanks for the comments.
OreoCookie, true to be told, both are snapshots: a friend and my girlfriend respectively. I carry my camera around with my most of the time, so when the opportunity shows up I take a shot. So neither of those two shots you liked were planned.

Know what story you're trying to tell and get all of it in the picture. Later, if and when you see another story there, you can crop, adjust and otherwise mess with the picture to bring out the other story. Those composition rules are from painting, by the way, and while they're still valid for photography, they would apply to the final, finished print-however you crop, dodge, enhance, etc. it. It's helpful to have the rule of thirds in your head when you're lining up a shot, but not essential.

I dunno why he can't crit them here. That's what the thread is for. Right?
It's just that others sometimes want to agree or disagree with the crits
which for some reason he seems opposed to or feels that his initial
crit needs to be defended against any disagreements. His crits are
good. I like them. Even when I don't agree I would rather hear them
than not. That's all assuming there's no personal digs mixed in with
them of course.
Just my opinion.

Nice! I can't think of any crits. It all looks like what you wanted to say. Well with one
crit I guess: What's the Hummel shot about?
I like 1 and 5 best! Both fairly unique! #1 looks awesome with a gradient applied
- in my opinion anyway.

Hope you don't mind the wild colors.

Wouldn't it be kinder to ask before you go messing with other people's work?

Given the fact that my licence specifically says no derivative work I could sue for copyright breach for that earlier one. Muhaha.

Do it! I dare you! Please do it! I beg you to do it! But just out of curiosity why
then would you modify other people's work without permission and post it both
publicly as well as store it in your private collection - I mean seeing as how you
think of derivative works and all? LOL can you say "hypocrite"?
OF course the two trouble-makers in the thread would butt-in where it was none
of their business. That figures!

Why don't you, Tesselator answer the question I posted about modifying people's work without asking first?

The two trouble-makers? Who's taking things personally now?
This being RR's thread and all, I'm sure he gets to decide who's the "troublemaker" here or not. And it seems he have made his views quite clear on where this thread has headed of late.

you're right. time for this thread to die....
oh, and you helped much in the demise of this thread erik. critiques ≠ excuse to be overly rude, and editing peoples pictures, that they liked in the first place, without permission. not everyone here is a "professional" as is evident in some of the pictures posted here. people tend to post pictures that they think are good. it doesn't really help to poke and prod theirs, and only give props to people who are obviously pros.
to many people just starting out whatever sport, career they want to be in, and then quit because people never give them compliments on their "newb" work, and just stop all together. I'm sure that their could be great future photographers here that want to post their stuff, but won't because they don't want to deal with overly harsh critiques.
sure the idea of posting pictures people have taken and want to share is good; but to ridicule and sometimes embarrass them because it's not up to "your standards" it's just to bad. Could have been many more great shots posted here.

OH! Hehehehe it was only a joke... Man, you really had me going.
Glad to know our senses of humor are still in tact and lively.
So, anyway, what do think of Adam Fisher's worx?

Overtly rude have I been? This is a thread for critique. People post to this thread for advice on how to improve their shots and/or technique so they can learn. It is not a place for coddling and unwarranted praise of substandard photos. That will never help anyone.
That said I have never been rude. Blunt? Honest? Yes and yes. Rude? No. Have I also give praise where praise is due? Most certainly.
This thread has run it's course, sadly enough. It started of well and went downhill very steadily a couple of pages ago (minus some bright moments of course).
Oh, and rude? Here's rude:

Critique ≠ absolute truth.
That's the problem with a lot of these posts. Also, you have to respect the authority of the giver of the critiques and to be honest, I don't see that happening all that much.
