Yes, it’s chaotic and weird, but I like it. (Straight from the camera)

I agree the bulldozer picture needs more color-but I'd emphasize the sky.
As for the other pictures, I like the sunrise/sunset over the city picture. It looks like more than a random snapshot to me, especially the way the sun is caught between buildings. Maybe not "high art," but pretty nice.

My first day with my D90:
(same as the above, at 100%)
This is my first DSLR, and second camera owned ever (first is my Coolpix L6).
All are straight off the camera, minus the cropping, and were taken with the 18-105 kit lens.

Is my display mis-calibrated, or is there a really sick turquoise tinge to the sky in that tree photo?
The greens/blues look *totally* off.

It was set to Vivid, with a polarizing filter on. Believe it or not, the sunny summer South African skies are actually that blue when viewed through polarized glasses.
And there is no turquoise on my 17" MacBook Pro matt display, with the default Snow Leopard color profile...

I have to disagree. Numbers three and five are lovely; the rest, while nice pictures, don’t tell me much.
The first two seem (though that may just be the size playing tricks) to be sharpened far too much. The boy’s face actually looks downright scary.

#3 was probably my favorite from the whole bunch. They were genuinely being like that. I just had to point and capture the whole day; very little direction was necessary.

Yeah, I've been experimenting with a "sharpening for the web" action included in the Boutwell's action packs. Usually they're a little soft when uploading, but now it's getting a bit eeee...
I'll include one other one my wife took of me about an hour ago. I don't like being on the "wrong" side of the lens much, but she did a pretty good job with this one...

I asked my friends why they started nicknaming me Jawbone.
Their response: "Jawbone of an ass."

@Jawbone
I like the reaction, but the bouquet is very unsettling.
Regarding the other pics, I also like #3 very much (nice use of space and composition), but I also happen to like the pic of the kid in the pool: the pattern of the waves is great. It would be even better if the woman (?) in the background wasn't there.

Thank ya. That's actually a small statue in the background.
Or an apparition.

I meant to write: I like the expression in your face, the way it is portrayed, but the nervous bokeh makes the picture unsettling to look at.

Exactly. My friends couldn't explain the connection to me though. 10+ years later, still nothing.
It's made for a consistent handle on 'NN, XBL, PSN, etc.

Any reason why the bokeh is that nervous? Did you apply too much sharpening? Perhaps using layer masks would help here.

Definitely too much sharpening after resizing for web-prep. Gotta find (or make) a different action.

I always love me some insect photos.
Why don't you crop that one just a bit further right?

Like so?
That was taken with the kit 18-105mm lens on my D90. I am actually VERY impressed with it. While it is my first DSLR – I have used D2xs, D3s, 1Ds, 5Ds etc and I thought I was going to have to get a few more lenses before I could take decent photos.

Yeah, they pretty hard to shoot, too. They move around a lot more than you'd think, and only stay in one place for about 4-8 seconds before moving to another flower or something, so you have that long to focus on something that is moving and damn small.
It is summer here so they are all over the place, in ur treez, pollenating ur flowaz.
