Everytime I play with Google Earth, I can't help but think it is the best application I've ever seen or used. When you show people for the first time, their just amazed at the amount of detail and the coolness of it all.
All the little bonuses, like being able to see photos of various locations, get directions, learn stuff from wikipedia links, just make it better and better.
Bearing in mind that Google Earth is basically just a viewer for a bunch of other internet based information, but think about it as a whole package. What is better than this?

I've had Google Earth for a while, but discovered something new and rocking the other day... ...clicking the "play" button underneath driving directions. Woot!

Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

Microsoft was first out of the gate with this type of thing. If my memory isn't too faulty I believe it was to tout their sql server 7.0 product a while ago. They posted all sorts of satellite images on the net.
As for google earth, meh.

Oh, forgot. Google Earth is sweet when house-hunting too. Pull up the realtor's data sheet, check for house niceness then pull out GE and check how close it is to neighbours before arranging a viewing.

While Microsoft was first out of the gate, Google quickly blew the doors off of Microsoft's offering (and, I'm using defending Microsoft).
