Well at least the designers who done the logo are gonna change it, they say it's cause it harmful to people with epilepsy. I honestly think they changed it because of the bad rep it got and used that as an excuse.

From AdRants.com:

As if the crap the London 2012 Olympic Organizing Committee received over this week's release of its much-maligned logo weren't enough, now eight reported cases of epileptic seizures caused by the logo's supporting video have caused the organization to pull the video. Epilepsy photo sensitivity expert Graham Harding explained, "What it appears has happened is that the flash rate of the diving sequence contravenes the Ofcom guidelines." Odds makers have given the logo 10-1 odds it will be replaced by year's end.

The odds (as of this afternoon) are now 5-1... Pressure will be on for the replacement, but I'd do it for 40k!

(This is where moonmonkey chimes in saying how a Spring might be appropriate as they are a vital part of the engine within choo choos in tunnels and I go off on one about how springs are actually more relevant for a Bar mitzvah on the moon, but only during springtime.)

Mob doesn't rule, the logo stays...

Despite the mass media attention surrounding the London 2012 Olympics identity, the games’ committee has decided that the controversial branding will not be changed.

Following widespread condemnation, petitions and calls for the Wolff Olins work to be redesigned, Locog maintains that it will evolve and is sticking to the assertion that the branding is ‘bold, modern and flexible’. Key games sponsors, including Visa and Lloyds TSB, have reacted positively to what they see as the creative flexibility afforded by the work.

A spokesman for London 2012 says that the aim is for the branding to evolve. ‘It is so early on, we are looking forward to 2012, and clearly things will have moved on by then. There will be more engagement through the games with the Internet and mobiles. This logo reflects that the future is certainly one of the things we have thought about. It has got to reach young people, and the best way to do that is through mobiles and websites.’

‘This is a departure from using landmarks, like the Sydney Opera House for the Sydney Olympics, and this is because London is a unique city and we don’t necessarily have to push London as much because it is a global city already. Because the logo is strong, you will always get a strong reaction,’ he adds.

Separately, Mayor of London Ken Livingstone has recommended to withhold payment from the production company that created the film purported to aggravate epilepsy sufferers. The company referred to is Live Communications, confirms a Locog spokesman. A spokesman for the Mayor stresses that he welcomed the logo itself on Monday.

The Locog spokesman says, ‘We took immediate steps to remove the animation from our website while checks are being conducted. The concerns are not about the design of the London 2012 logo.’

They will be sorry if this is not changed while it's still early. At this point, it doesn't matter how the brand "evolves", if that logo is not re-designed this is what these games will historically be remembered for.

Now there's a man who's got no idea just how FUBAR a modern British government can manage to make things.

I have a sneaky suspicion that come the end of the games, they'll be crying out for people to remember it for its crap logo instead of the almighty screw up they just had.

Actually thats a great idea, springs are fundamental to machines, machines were invented in England, so it symbolises everything it needs to.

Great idea my ass.

Apparently we're all going to love what they've got hidden up their sleevies...

Wolff Olins chairman Brian Boylan has been urging staff at the London branding consultancy not to get ‘despondent’ or ‘defensive’ about the London 2012 work that has caused such a media furore this week.

In an e-mail seen by Design Week and circulated to staff at the consultancy on Tuesday night, the evening after the media launch at London’s Roundhouse, Boylan called on employees to keep their cool, explaining that ‘it was inevitable given that 2012 were not able to tell the whole story [and] that we have not been allowed to tell our story, and the press is what it is.’

The consultancy has been unable to talk to Design Week because it is contractually bound not to talk to the press. However, Boylan’s internal e-mail makes clear that there is more to follow the launch branding and in his view that only then should it be judged.
‘I am sure when the world outside gets to hear the full story the work will get the recognition it deserves and criticism which is informed and fair,’ Boylan writes.

Since Wednesday, those working on the project at the consultancy have made a series of presentations internally to brief Wolff Olins staff more fully on the 2012 creative work.
