Nah, that's a different process.

A couple friends of mine went there on a geology field trip and were trying to take pictures but water kept condensing on the camera lens.

It's unclear from the article whether mere mortals can visit the cave, or only geologists or people associated with the mine. I'd love to see either the cave of crystals or the "cave of swords".

Probably because our brains can't accept that these crystals can be so large.

Really cool pictures. I want to visit that place. I wonder if it's open to the public.

ah, but the kryptonian symbol of El is the symbol we like to call the S.

but of course, if you go back to the comic, it is also the first letter of the last names of the creators (Siegel and Shuster) and they said they did it for that reason.

Could be the crystal causing that effect.

Horizontal growth of a formation would be called helictite but is possible in limestone etc cave systems.

I recently saw the documentary series Planet Earth where, in their Caves episode, they documented the Lechuguilla cave system in New Mexico. I thought that was spectacularly other worldly, but this Cave of Crystals is just something else (and very Kryptonian)!

That cave is awesome. The crystals grew when the caves were filled with water. Sweet.
