Bitten by the nostalgia bug indeed.

Suddenly my beloved childhood cartoon series are being revived on the big screen - first TMNT, then Transformers and even Thundercats. . . .

Ok... I enjoyed them as a child... but really... how low has the film industry sunk?

From the article:
humanoid cats (with feline names like Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro and Cheetara) who must flee their planet of Thundera after it's destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off.
Oh, good! More choices for:

Pretty low. For a while there, another He-Man was on the horizon.

And they're releasing a Dragonlance film this fall (you fantasy nerds) about 15 years too late.

What bothers me is that it's going to be coming out with a low age rating to get the most ticket sales, but 90% of the kids going to watch it will have never heard of the Thundercats.
(The new) Transformers are on TV now, same for Spiderman, X-Men and most of the other comic/cartoons to movies that have come out recently.
Did the studio execs just look through a list of old cartoons that haven't had their rights bought out yet?

On topic, has anyone bought the Thundercats DVDs? At $195 for both seasons I haven't been able to bring myself to buy them.

I wouldn't. ThunderCats has by far the worst voice-acting of all my childhood cartoons.

The line up for the voice acting was pretty decent, IIRC. It's also going to be CGI. It has potentional.

I play NWN on a DL server all the time.

Either way, for a fantasy movie, not doing it animated/CGI would really limit its potentional.

True. But all CGI would be better.

Of course. Final Fantasy: Spirits Within was absolutely amazing and it came out in 2001. Six years later, and the technology has advanced quite a bit.

Exactly.

Personally, I hold out hope for a strictly CGI Drizzt movie.

Based off of Homeland, Exile and Sojourn or the Crystal Shard, Steams of Silver and the Halfling's Gem? Or both I suppose, but the latter would have to start first.

Would you rather see these as trilogy style or three in one?

Trilogy style. Books take enough of a beating going to the screen without condensing them.

True. Though it seems the books that get made into cartoon/animated/CGI movies fare better than thier live action counterparts. They have less limitations.

Do you know if the DL movie is a big screen release?

It's funny, I remember Thundercats being far more awesome than the clips on YouTube indicate it was. Perhaps it's because I was about 4 at the time.

Well, it was awesomely bad.

Except Snarf, who was just bad. STFU, Snarf!

Yeah, if you go back and watch episodes, you'll notice that the dialog is really simplistically written - as in, for four year-olds. That doesn't mean a modern version with more realistic language cannot be produced, however.

Nice news to hear. I followed the comic book line when it came out a few years back. Certainly Thundercats could be brought up to a more sophisticated level while still being fantastical and fun. I'd prefer it be a cartoon and/or CGI than live-action, as well. Hopefully, it'll be true to the story and spirit of the original at least and written to include an older audience in addition to kids, too.

If it was live action, I would say Danny Divito should play Snarf.

Much of the original Icewind Dale books couldn't make it to screen. The trek to Bruenor's homeland was just too similar to Fellowship of the Rings.

I think Homeland could make a good movie, though.
