Anyone here ever use a BASIC stamp? I'm looking to set up something like this CatCam, and I don't know how to program a microcontroller. I'm thinking the easiest one to use may be a BASIC stamp kit from Parallax.
Can this be used with a Mac, or must I use Windows to program in pbasic?
I know this is a simple program to write, but for me it looks like a mountain. If you have another suggestion, let me know.

I've ALWAYS been interested in this, but never had the time (or probably wit ) to figure it out.
Always wanted a eeprom burner too.

I bought one several years ago, but never really did anything with it. If I recall correctly, there use to be a OS9 or earlier program written for the Mac, but I don't believe it has been translated to OSX. I remember trying it with Virtual PC.

I'll have to ask someone at work for more help. I may be in over my head.

Have you done any programming before? That's the first step to doing something like this. Just a week or so ago I was a complete novice. I couldn't tell you anything about Microcontrollers, but I've been looking into the [a href="http://www.irobot.com/sp.cfm?pageid=292">iRobot Create</a>. Since I've stumbled across oodles of information about programming micro-controllers.
This was useful:

It's not a BASIC stamp though, these articles are on the AVR series Microcontrollers. I'm fluent in PHP, so C and C++ are closer to me than BASIC (not that basic is really all that difficult, but the less learning curve for me, the better).
The only problem that I've run into thus far in Programmers for Micro controllers. A programmer is a device which loads your compiled code into the microcontroller. You have to buy one of those, and then you have to (more often than not) get a USB->Serial adapter for the programmer. So it's a $50-$60 investment if you don't have either.

Ok, this is the best one out there for OS X - and it's way better than the native Windows app. It's here:
