I've got a 27" Zenith HDTV (CRT) that isn't even five years old. This past weekend, I noticed a small purple blotch in the bottom right corner of the screen. I've seen this before with magnetic interference with old monitors and stuff - if I hold a magnet up to the blotch, it moves, gets brighter, or goes away. I've moved around everything in the vicinity of the TV that could be causing this. The only new thing I've added to my TV cart is a Wii. I've degaussed multiple times with no luck.
Sooo anyone here know anything about how to get rid of such a blotch?

I have a client who has a 21" monitor bought years ago when they cost ~3000 American dollars. He can't bear to throw the thing out, even with the magnet blotch that one of his ex-employees inflicted... Does this drill bit magnet thing work?!

I'm getting horizontal flickering lines across my TV when I'm using my Wii. At first I thought it was because of where my Wii was, so I moved it and they went away. They just started up again today. D'you suppose that this is caused by the same interference that borked my screen? I know it's not the cables because I used the same A/V cable with my friend's Wii without issue.
I'll find me some magnets and try the drill thing. I'm guessing my cheap-ass 9.6v drill won't work...boyfriend has an 18v that should do it.

I have never done it, but I had a friend who did it when he worked for a university help desk. Many of the professors had no clue as to what magnets did to monitors and magnetic media.
Watch the video I linked to.
