At CNN.com, under "Best of TV" they have a video blurbed as follows:

The Shot: Chilling crash video: CNN's Anderson Cooper has the shot—an Australian helicopter crashing into a ship and then falling into the ocean.

Cooper:

The shot of the day is a tragic one. [Brief details of crash given, including two deaths] You can send us your shot ideas at CNN.com/360; we'll put some of the best clips on the air.
Isn't this just trashy, tabloidized voyeurism of the worst kind?

That's the direction CNN has been heading, especially with its online efforts that promote such high minded incidents as car chases.

That's pretty insensitive to the recently berieved families involved. It's one thing to show violence and death on the news when it's actually the news (e.g. one 9/11, in war correspondence etc) but quite something else to show it in a 'shot of the day' fluff feature. It's all about context, and this isn't in an appropriate context. Still, I'm sure it's good for their ratings...

So CNN just turned into Maximum Exposure. That's reassuring.

It sounds like they tacked some generic ending on to it, not realising the impact it could have with the story. Sad, but not totally incriminating.

Honestly, it's troubling. My post doesn't begin to convey the flippant hype they gave the bit, with it's computer-game-esque graphics and music and Cooper's "check-this-sh*t-out" semi-smile, wink, nudge.

Perhaps CNN went to the FOX news school.

That's closer to the truth than you think. It's like an arms race of stupid.

Fox lost what little credibility they had with me when they started their Red Eye show, and their Daily Show rip-off.
