Microcenter had a mailed coupon for a free 1gb usb drive or 1 gb sd card. Microcenter usually has 1gb flash drives for around $10 or less. Sure, they're generic thumb drives, but like analogue Sprinkles says, they're all pretty much the same.
I have a Sandisk 2gb that I picked up at Costco many months ago for $20, and it seems to work good. It has a retractable USB connector and a spiffy blue light, but it comes preloaded with some useless Windows software that shows up on desktop as an optical disc. I've reformatted it a couple of different ways and the useless Windows stuff remains. I find that annoying, but it doesn't hurt the functonality of the device.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

I got a 512 one for $15 with a $10 mail in rebate. So it cost me $5 in the end.
