The old 500s are actually pretty cool.
Oh and Dakar, what he actually intended to say was that he wanted Fiat to become the Zune of cars.

I want Fiat to become the Apple of cars
Fiat is launching a new version of the three-door Cinquecento – meaning 500 in Italian – at a huge, televised ceremony in its hometown of Turin on Wednesday, with the car making its comeback after being out of production for 32 years.
Slightly bigger than the original, it is part of the aim of Fiat's chief executive officer to emulate Apple Inc. by making its cars as stylish as the U.S. company's computers and electronic gadgets, including the iPod portable music player.
“I want Fiat to become the Apple of cars,” Sergio Marchionne told La Stampa daily in an interview on Wednesday.
“And the Cinquecento will be our iPod,” he added, referring to the hugely successful music player.
It will be interesting to see, but somehow I'm not convinced.
Kinda looks like a Mini wannabe, but nowhere near as nice.
Also, I wonder what the handling will be like, considering handling is what the iPod is all about.
OTOH, the price seems OK.
P.S. In this thread, car analogies have the green light.

When he said he wanted it to become the Apple of cars, I'm guessing he wanted it to physically look like an apple, only a car.

I think everybody wants to become the Apple of their respective fields. The problem is that they're going to have to stop sucking if they want to do that, and nobody seems to be willing to make that sacrifice.

This is the original:
My dad had one when he was a student. You can see where the design lines of the new model come from. I think it's a pretty cool idea (always assuming the new car doesn't suck) especially for the European market.

my brother and dad are big into cars and had two of the old ones they were restoring. Very nice little cars. I like the look of the new one.

They were good cars back then, too. That reputation comes from the ignorance of mechanics back when Fiats weren't very common outside Europe.

We'll never have cars with as much character as the 50s and 60s had. Manufacturers these days copy each other too much and all go for aero-dynamics (which is pointless if you're not trying to win races). That's why the old 500 has so much more personality than the new 500.

Fiat made most of its money in the 80s in South Asia!

Oh yeah, it is not like a Windows logo inside your FIAT cars is gonna help… porca miseria, fare schifo !!
