Saw this a few minutes ago. This is unbelievably saddening, but it's even worse when you consider that it's not really all that shocking in today's world. Something has to change. No wonder so many people are depressed.
Waiting on Dakar to make the obvious joke relating to the last sentence of Rumor's post.

The perpetrators are actually the victims of living in a repressed, white, patriarchal society. This act is a sign of progress towards a more enlightened, sexually liberated future in which everyone has an iPhone, even people without jobs. With the slide of a finger everyone will be able to listen to AAC files and view local seafood restaurants.

I doubt things are worse than "they used to be." It's not that people are any worse, it's that we have the internet and 24-hour news cycles that provide us with quicker access to all the worst that man can do.

as long as we're on the topic of terrible things people do, I thought this was particularly atrocious:
Download and Find Deleted YouTube Videos
Teen mother gives her young daughter ecstacy, plus she's sitting on the floor of a moving car.

I saw something about that, but the video is rapidly being deleted from numerous websites.

How is this not shocking? Does Tv, movies, music, and video games glorify forcing people to perform incestuous acts?

You hear about so many similar cases that nothing is as shocking as it would've been 50 years ago.
I'm aware you're probably trying to rile me up.

If Death Row was a more streamlined process, they would. Many Death Row inmates sit for years before they are executed.
Also, I think people (read: men) would be more afraid of being castrated than dying.

Not where I live. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised reports of incest occur more often in Louisiana.[/cheap shot]

If death row were more streamlined, there would be even more innocent people executed. You are right though, at one point in the 90s, drug dealers in New York were more likely to die on the street than on death row.

2- I'm sorry but the child on e is disturbing. I've done some dumb things when high, some recorded, but seeing them later.... gawd no. never like that. however i was a child like that for a bit. sad.

I know it goes against many of our national sensibilities about individuals and their capacity for redemption and reformation but I think sexual abusers of children, particularly repeat offenders, should get a lifetime sentence if/when they are caught. There have been some studies done and, from what I have read, sexual predation is one area where therapy and medicine has little effect on curbing/eliminating these desires; The rate of recidivism is very high among pedophiles. Most people who sexually abuse children will do it again and again and again no matter how much time they spend in jail or how much psychiatric counseling they get. I really think we need a life-sentence statute for aggressive sexual predators. Put them in prison, make them relatively comfortable--say a medium security prison--and throw away the key.
(While castration would eliminate some sexual urges it would NOT eliminate the mental urges that drive a sexual predator to do what they do. So, I would not be in favor of that form of punishment. Aggressive sexual predators are a detriment to society and should be removed from society--to the benefit of the predator as much as the society.)

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Have we tried that yet? I'm not being sarcastic, but have we done serious studies to see if chemical castration works?

California passed a law requiring chemical castration a while back, but I haven't seen any studies correlating it with sex crimes. It would be interesting to see.

Actually, that's not the case. More and more stuff gets reported and so it looks like the world is getting more ****ed up, when the reality is that we have lower crime rates now than in, say, the 50s.
And those teens, lock them up and throw away the key for a long time.

That's anecdotal. Crazy **** has always happened, sexual assaults are nothing new. I am not trying to make light of this, I am as horrified as anybody by this. But the reality is that these things happen comparatively rarely (in our society) and when the do happen we do something about them.

How is that anecdotal? I'm asking a question that could be answered by hard numbers.
Edit: on second thought what police station lists 'forced incest' in their records.

Indeed. And the reason why it's "not shocking in today's society" isn't an indication that "today's society" is any worse or better (I'd lean towards better myself) than before, it's just that we have media who spreads these events far wider and more effective than ever before.

The vast majority of all sexual abuse happens within the family or the circle close to it.
