So I was in london for a school and I had to get an oyster card for the tube. Now I am back in the states and I keep getting emails "Weekend Tube closures" and I can't seem to figure out how to get them to stop. There is no unsubscribe link or even a link to a privacy policy. I don't even remember asking to get these emails and they must have done it when i signed up for my oyster card.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? I tried to log into my oyster account online but it said my account information was wrong and I should call them but I would rather not have to call london.

btw, I am pretty sure its a federal law in the states that emails like this have to contain a unsubscribe link and a privacy policy. Am I correct?

Try and find a contact address on their site. If not, try the postmaster or webmaster.

Ask them to stop sending you stuff.

If it keeps coming, tell them that you're going to try the new UK anti-spam legislation out - works every time, since the fine is unlimited.
(UK anti-spam law goes live | The Register for a quick overview).

And US federal law doesn't cover what UK companies do.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

I realize that what a UK company does isn't covered by US law. I am just surprised that nothing was in this email. I also realize that most of the time, this unsubscribe feature is just a ploy to see if you use the address, but in this case, it would actually be helpful.

According to the UK laws from BBC:
Under the new law, companies will have to get permission from an individual before they can send them an e-mail or text message.
I probably opted in when i signed up. Then I found this somewhere:
In the UK, regulations implementing the Directive come into force on 11th December. Interestingly, one of the requirements of those regulations is that all marketing e-mails provide an opportunity for the recipient to unsubscribe from further marketing communications.
Does this email not qualify as a "marketing" email?

nonhuman: I honestly don't remember. I am pretty sure I never signed up for any email lists on my own so thats the only thing I can think of.

I was finally able to track down: enquire@tfl.gov.uk hopefully this will work.

You don't have to register your oyster card unless you intend to buy a season ticket that's over 7 days in length, they do give you a form, but simply fill in the bare min/chuck it, most ticket offices just want you out of the way anyway!

If you register you can do auto-top ups and theft protection jazz-ness, but beware...you will be probed and profiled all day and night.
