I refuse to believe MacNN is dying unless Netcraft confirms it, like they did for NetBSD.

That ceases to be a problem the second you just stop visiting the Political Lounge.

There isn't much of a point to start new threads to have them come in and crap in it.

It is obviously slower than it use to be, so maybe others are tired of those same posters too and choose to not to participate in the lounge?
I don't know about the rest of you but I have several forum communities in my bookmarks. When there's a lot of griefing and drama in one I move on and spend more time on one of the others. I used to come here and post whenever I had a tip or anything that I thought others would enjoy. Now, before I hit 'new post' I think, are the results this worth my effort? Usually I stop there and go back to one of the other forums.

The irony is that you (Ca$h) are one of the reaons I quit coming here.

My take on this.

I've been here since June of 2000 and although I do agree with what Rob sees, you have to understand that even Back Then it was just as stupid. Remember Powerbook Kid and all that crap? OMGWTFBBQ? There are a ton of forums out there, but I keep coming back here because of the culture of the place. My second home is neowin, but even that's a very distant second. I do agree that there have been a lack of QUALITY topics lately. I have found that I'm not responding to as much as I used to.

You should maybe look at it from a different point of view.

But at the end of the day, I find that this is my "internet home" so to speak. I might not agree with everyone here, but I found that the people here are much better to have a conversation with than most on the 'net.

It could be MUCH worse.

I have never owned a Mac, but I plan on making my next computer purchase a MacBook Pro, and I have no comparison to compare this forum to since I'm new, but I like it just the way it is. Most of the members are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, which scores 3 +'s for MacNN.

All the interesting people moved to the Political/War forum. The Lounge was never all that interesting aside from political viewpoints and religious banter. Any idiot could have predicted that once those topics were moved from the Lounge all that would be left was silly pointless crap that had no real merit. Seriously, there never was much appeal for a for a forum that lacked a purpose.

But don't worry. Several years ago we were all assured the Political/War forum was *temporary*. Then Bush got re-elected. So I figure the Political forum will finally be eliminated in 2016 after Newt Gingrich completes his 2nd term as president.

It went way down when the conservative gay-bashing gun-toting bushies got here...

But really, this place is still great, as long as we have members like Dakar posting his every thought and changing his sig every two hours.

The PL lounge has some decent discussions, but most threads never make it past one page without degrading into jackassery. The liberals call the conservatives alpha-male pricks and the alpha male pricks call everyone else pussies.

I think the PL lounge was the first step in watering down the NN as a whole, but it could be worse.....Newsfactor Network could be in charge.

Since it's hosted off of your .mac site anyways I guess you could change it to a g o a t s e image and get me banned.

But you don't want a 135lb whiteboy after you, right?

They gave up trying to be as good as me.

I still have a loyal following. Probably 90% of the interesting people at MacNN follow me around like puppy dogs. They want to be more like the Spliffster. and, really, who could blame 'em?

We could upgrade the hamster, but knowing MacNN, it'll end up something like this:

Seems to me a certain two posters always try to get me banned. :| This is part of the problem with this place. The funny thing is they're both claiming to be part of a faith that is all about forgiveness, yet all I feel from them is hatred.

Or it could be that two posters are the only vocal ones out there. I've personally never sent in a complaint about anyone on the boards, but I don't imagine that everyone that reports someone actually returns to a thread just to post "Reported!"

If someone acts like a moron and ruins a thread (this is a hypothetical example), then I just move along to a different one. The only thing that would ever prompt me to report someone is if they were just hateful and ignorant on a daily basis. Oh, wait...!

It does seem like the Lounge is a little less active these days. The gaming threads used to liven it up a bit, but those were moved to an obscure little corner of the universe. I think it's more of a case of most people getting bored. Luckily there are a few people who can turn a thread on its head by derailing it and consequently making it 100% more interesting. I've been guilty of this myself once or twice, but it's only because of sheer boredom with the Lounge on some days.

Then again, maybe the Lounge isn't necessarily less active. Maybe people just aren't posting about things that I personally find interesting.

Paris Hilton needs to go on another binge. That would liven the Lounge up some.

Well, basically, the only debate we have in the Lounge these days is between Blu-Ray and HDDVD, which is eye-wateringly dull.

What happened to the days when SaltyChic[k]en would come in here and start blasting gays or talking about how Josh actually looked good with his shirt off?

What happened to the days when cash would stir up a flamefest and dish out death threats and ad hominems over the most trivial debates, like scooter restoration?

Most of all, I miss Cody's celebrity news threads which would whip all the liberals into a frenzy.

I think a decline in people PS'ing outrageous images (rugged good looks) is the main culprit.

Agreed. MacNN will always be "home" All he other "satellite" forums that have stemmed off from NN could never replace it (Nor I don't think any even try hopefully)

With anything, there is always room for improvement.

How many times can one forgive you only for you to spit it back in their faces?

I've never once seen you admit to wrong doing. It has always been the other person's fault.

You seem to forget who was making threads and posts trying to get them to unban you yet again and give you a 6th or 7th chance. Can't remember which it is. Anyhow, why do you seem to forget that I used to take up for you when no one else would?

How many times are we supposed to forgive and forget?

BTW Rob. I still forgive you. That doesn't mean I think you should be allowed back. I will continue to forgive you. But until you show change, I will continue to rail against you being here.

You've burned your own bridges far too many times. Only to blame others for it.

Yeah I know that, but i didn't want to derail. I was showing Rob how you can forgive someone, but still not want them back in.

Esp when they show no remorse for what they have done.

And you are correct, Rob really hasn't asked for forgiveness.

Well, most drug addicts become born again Christians so, ahhh, it's not a good joke if I have to explain it.

But I will say, 130lbs, watches cartoons, penchant for sillyness....sounds like everyone I know that smokes drugs <- It's to bad the smilies can't be ghosted like the text.

I'm surprisingly straight-laced in real-life. And I agree with the last sentiment.
