I get back from lunch and the Dell catalogue is here (my boss bought a 600m a while back). Our receptionist is looking through and says to me, "Dell built an iMac killer." So he hands me the catalogue and it's the XPS M2010. I tell him first off, "It's a notebook." Then I proceed with the specs and the price. At this point, I almost couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was flabbergasted to see that it weighs almost 20lbs! Besides that, the system itself isn't impressive and is extremely overprice, no matter how it's configured.

It's not a laptop so much as it is a portable desktop. Of course it costs a lot.

It doesn't even have the power of a MBP or even a 17" XPS. How does that make it a portable desktop?

I know one person who has the M2010 and loves it. He uses it as a desktop most of the time, but when he needs to take it somewhere else it's really convenient to have a built in keyboard/mouse and short battery life compared to an AIO like an iMac.
I also saw one in an airport, which really confused me. Who would want to travel with that beast?

It's an interesting concept, I'll give Dell that. If they can pack more power into it, increase battery life, reduce the price and drop 8 - 10lbs of it, I think it would have a good chance.

The other problem is it's running Windows. =] I've never liked it, it's a good idea but, the iMac is still king.
