Ok, I've gotten an old VW Golf from 1991 and it's a nice car - except for one really annoying problem.

When it rains (which it does quite a lot at the moment here in Denmark), the floor area in front of the front passager seat fills up with water - yesterday I had to remove 2.5 liters of water! I've checked to see if I could find where the water comes in, and have ruled out the windows and it's not a leaking radiator...

Also when I'm doing a sharp lefthand turn, water seems to swoosh over the heating apperatus and the cabin of the car turns into a steamshower!

So, does any of your car guys know what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Open the hood and look for the air intake to the interior ventilation/heating system.

Sounds like it's running from the drainage ridge around the engine compartment into the ventilation.
I've also had water run into my car through a rubber fitting because the drainage ridge had become clogged with seeds/twigs/leaves/dust compacted by moisture over the years, causing the water to run over at a spot never intended by the designers to withstand that much.

I have no idea where the intake is in a Golf, so don't hit me if this isn't possible.

My dads car had an issue where the rain gutters from his sunroof or something got blocked and the water would end up in his drivers side footwell.

Thanks guys (and girls?), I think I found the reason why the water collects in the passagerside footwell... So as soon as the weather is nice again, I'm out to degunk the drainage gutter between the hinges in the enginebay - so a nice clearout and some silicone stuff should help here...

I'll let you know how it goes

thats good, but just be careful you don't get too excited with the goo and put too much on/in the gutters. That could cause more problems than you have now. Just make sure the caulk/silicon you do put in is smooth and does not obstruct any pre-existing flow.

That same thing happened to our '92 (I think, can't remember though, I was little back then ) Jetta. It was really annoying, especially since it was brand new.
