We were driving over to pick up my wife's paycheck and I spotted him on the side of the road. I did a U turn and parked my Jeep.
I walked over to him, tossed t-shirt over him and made a dash home.
I'll have to post the picture of my hand where he clawed me.

I had my brother meet me there and we examined the hawk's injuries.
A broken leg is all we could find. So I made a few phone call and go ahold of Katherine. She the vet for the DNR wildlife rehab center, specializing in raptors.

Here's my brother holding the hawk.

I may get to transport him to Auburn University in my plane when he stabilizes.
(I'm also the volunteer transport pilot for the DNR here)

You should see my right hand!
He was just a little teed-off when I attempted to subdue him.

A while back I rescued a Cooper's Hawk. He was flapping on the street like a plastic bag-we couldn't tell that he was a bird until we got up to him. Threw a blanket over him and contacted a raptor rescue group called "Last Chance Forever." They have a network of vets and found the right one.

Our Cooper's Hawk had a broken wrist-very bad for birds, since the wingtips are how they control a lot of their flight. But with good vets and good rehab, our hawk got better enough to be released into the wild.

Our hawk was pretty dazed when we picked him up-not ticked off like yours.

Incredible! That's a beautiful animal. Good for you for spotting him and taking care of him. Let us know throughout how things go.

Wow. He's a biggun'. We rescued one that hit our picture window one day. But half the size. Cool.

Very cool. I do hope you put some antiseptic on that hand right away. These guys get into so wild stuff.

Oh, he made it through the night.
They will attempt to fix his broken hip.
May not pin it and just immobilize it and let it heal, even though it my be crooked.

He may never be the same in the wild. If the prognosis is bad, maybe a zoo or refuge willt ake him.

I would LOVE to have a pet hawk. Right now, I just have a smart ass parrot! She would get jealous (and scared), though.

What if the Great Spirit was short on mice, voles, rats, squirrels and rabbits in the area and this greedy bird had karma coming to him? What if you've just turned nature upside-down by interfering? * I kid Sky. Awesome job brother. I think.

That said; with those shorts and socks you're wearing, you could start your own program called "hawk-files". You could pounce on these guys from like 7 feet away and put them in half-nelson holds yelling things like "look at the beak on this mammoth!!!"

My uncle keeps losing chickens to the hawks in the area. I never would have guessed that a hawk would eat a chicken.

You never saw the cartoon with the stuttering rooster and the baby chicken hawk?

I can't remember what his name was, but he talked with a southern accent.

*edit* this guy...
