I made bacon for breakfast for the first time in ages today. I have a small amount of bacon grease left over. What should I do with it?

Fry those Eggs in it..ahhh heaven!!! but if your done cooking with it put it in a coffee can with a lid. Don't put it down the drain unless you want RotoRooter at your door for $80 hour.

Yeah, frying eggs in it is good. But if you really want a good, artery-clogging time, I recommend fried chicken. My fiance made her grandmother's fried chicken with bacon grease a little while ago. It was amazing.

if i don't use mine for a remaining meal, i save it too in an aluminum can with lid. anytime i saute some onions or peppers, etc...instead of olive oil i snag a little left over bacon fat. awesome.

Pour it outside in the same spot. Do this each time with your cooking grease. Eventually it will kill all plant life in that spot for a very long time.

I do what my mom did all through my childhood - keep a clean jar on your stovetop or next to your stove, and dump grease into it. When it gets full enough, throw it out with the regular trash. If it's too hot in your house in the summer, keep it in your freezer, and take it out before you fry something that will produce grease - if you dump hot grease into a frozen jar, it'll make the bottom fall out (which is what happened to my boyfriend once).

You'll probably not produce enough grease from cooking to fill up that jar more than three or four times a year, but it's the cleanest way to get rid of it.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

What a complete waste!

I just leave the bacon grease in the cast-iron frying pan - usually I'll follow with eggs, but otherwise whatever will be fried in that pan that evening or the next day will benefit in a very real and tasty way.

thanks for all the tips! I did, in fact, cook my eggs in it this morning also, but drained most of the grease first and left just enough for yummy eggs.

I'll have to find some excuse to fry some onions soon, that sounds like the yummiest thing to do next. I was going to make something with Eggplant tonight, but I don't think fried eggplant in bacon grease sounds all that appealing....

Remind me not to eat anything which fits in a frying pan at analog and Dork's houses.

Pour it in a foil pie plate and leave it out for the birds. Put birdseed in it, if you have some.

In the wild, survival is all about food. Since grease is 100% fat, and fat has 9 calories per gram, it will be like a tasty treat and easy energy for a creature used to eating bugs and seeds.

It's not likely one meal will cause heart disease in any animal.

AFAIK leaving grease in a teflon/non-stick skillet is a really bad idea.

It is recommended to season a cast-iron skillet with grease. Few people these days, however, use those. It's a lot easier (and cheaper and lighter) to get the normal non-stick skillets you see everywhere.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

You're a vegetarian too?

When I was a meat eater, I'd fry up eggs and bologna in bacon grease. I'd even fry up Filet Mignon in bacon grease and put the greasy drippy thing on a kaiser roll. Peanut butter and bacon (with grease) too.
Of course I was about 70 lbs heavier then.

People who are likely to care about what bacon grease does to the flavor of their cooking are likely to be using cast-iron skillets.

Go ahead and collect the grease in a large jar and throw it away.

That reminds me. I need to get a cast iron skillet. Can't make proper friend potatoes without one.
