I've got a friend who wants to start up a website. He's got the domain, but currently has no hosting service.

Looking for something that is not overpriced, has good customer service, and options. We'd be needing PHP, MySQL, perl, and the ability to use an ASP module for Apache.

Ideally, he'd like a hosting option that lets him pay a little more for root access on a box, instead of just straight webspace on someone's server.

So. What do you guys use? Who should we avoid? What's a good price for service?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the links. It seems like a crapshoot - you hear great things about some of these, but you can also find bad stuff about them. I'll just let him decide for himself.

Personally, I use A Small Orange for web hosting. No problems with the service. Good prices, especially for small sites like mine.

Your site is nice, btw.
