YouTube - My Child's Pack

This is bizarre...and sad that a company will play on parents fears using tragedies like Columbine to market stuff like this. To me, this is much worse than selling executive parachutes after 911. As a parent of two school age children, I find this appalling

Am I way off on this? Would anybody pay $175 for a bullet proof backpack for their kid? Is the world really that dangerous?

Better to buy them a life-jacket - far more kids die from swimming pools than guns.

They are probably made of ballistic nylon...

Really. That site could possibly be a joke, just like Hideapod.

A lot of schools around here only let students carry their bags to and from school and not to each class. So this will only help if the kids were attacked in the morning waiting for school to start or leaving school. If they were in class then their bullet proof backpack will be safely stored in their locker.

edit: I was only thinking about high schools. This could work for college students.

You would never find my happy ass working in a tall building without a parachute.

Seems like common sense to me.

The odds of ever needing such things are extremely small. And jumping out of a tall building with a parachute with no experience would be almost certain death, the crazy winds around skyscrapers would slap you right into the next one.

My point is that people are being financially victimized by fear. Should we all carry snakebite kits and snake identification manuals just in case. I think our odds of snake bite death (and a million other causes) are much greater than death by bullets at school and death by terrorist in a skyscraper.

Just my opinion

Yes, but swimming pools aren't EVIL. Handguns are EVIL. Didn't you know that GUNS kill PEOPLE, PEOPLE don't.

Check out the b*llshit "Resources" page. OMFG.

Maybe they should sell bulletproof backpacks that can be used as a floatation device?

Then again, they say that an alarming number of people die in car accidents, so maybe this floating bulletproof backpack should also make really loud warning sounds shortly before a car accident?

As much as I'm rather attached to my idea of this thing making obnoxious loud sounds, I guess an airbag would be more practical. We must think of the children here, and not just ourselves.

And maybe some sort of 'shock' system when the kid is inactive for more than 30 minutes, to help fight obesity.

I don't like tall buildings. They make me nervous when I can feel them sway.

Besides, who needs to know how to sky dive? I've seen enough action movies to know that I just need to grab the hottest female I can, and I'll make it safely to the ground.

News story on TV here today showed a company which makes school uniforms with a kevlar lining to prevent knife penetration.

So it's probably not a joke site.

And if things start to go wrong, you can drop the female!

I'm with rumor on the parachutes, if I were employed very high up in the air I'd want one sitting in a drawer near me. I'd get some cool **** sewn onto it also.

it's funny to imagine a bunch of dudes buttoned down with ties flappin' in the breeze buzzing about to and fro, and their suckretarys, skirts up over their heads, pantyless(cause she was sluttin around) wackin' buildings.

that was a long sentence.

what kind of self respecting parent would teach their kid to turn their back on adversity like some kind of pinko nancy?

minus well go for bulletproof bvds if you really want to offer some protection on the schoolyard. my nuts still ache from some of the kicks of my youth.

Irrational fear makes a few very rich.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?
