Do you have OS 9, or do you have an old machine that has OS 9 on it? I am looking for the Chicago and Charcoal fonts that are on that system. They aren't in OS X! I wanted to make a graphic look retro with the Chicago font.......and it's not in my fonts

I do, but I only have because I needed it for a firmware update.

Yep. But I haven't used it in years.

I just know it's going to make a big comeback someday, and when it does, I'll already have it.

On two actually. I have it on my Power Mac along with Tiger, 10.0, and Leopard, and on my iMac with 10.1.

What is this "OS 9" you speak of?

I got Chicago, but the Charcoal that was sent didn't work.

If you have Charcoal I'll take it! Thanks.

Edit: For some reason Charcoal doesn't want to work on my desktop, but it works fine on my laptop.

I have OS 9 on all the PPC Macs I use. It's still dead useful a lot of the time.

I do a little Mac support etc around my local area. I was shocked to find that around 25% of the people I see are still running OS9 and one was still running 8.1

These people all run Macs but are definitely NOT computer people. I guess many people just never upgrade until they have to.

I suppose the people who need support most are also the people most likely to be running OS 9.

I've never run OS 9, actually. I was a switcher, and didn't come around until the OSX days.

If it's a slot-loader, go to 768 and throw Tiger on there. it's an improvement over even Panther.

Hey, I did hate Aqua when it first came out. The first few variations were pretty darn garish.

I LOVED OS X's stability but HATED the look. I came to love the look of Platinum, and missed it. I guess that is why I made Sosumi/Simple Aqua long ago.

I guess it's one reason I am looking forward to Leopard. It's more Platinum looking.

But more modern. I use Max's "Smooth Stripes" which is basically what Simple Aqua was but with minor improvements over Apple's tackiness. I use the non-theme version. The installer. I hate system "patches" One of the reasons I dumped Kaleidoscope long ago back in OS 8 days. That and I fell in love with the "Aaron" look during my OS 7 days.

But man did that make the OS slower..

It's a tray loader. Just something I got to mess around with. I am happy with 10.1.

Well, the Aaron extension prepared you for the OS 8 upgrade in more than one way then

Well OS 8s Platinum didn't nearly slow the resources down like Aaron, Kaleidoscope seem to do back then. So I didn't complain.

It's one of the reasons I hate patching systems for theming instead of just replacing. It slows the system down.

Haven't even thought of OS 9 in ages. Not even sure if I would know how to use it any more.

/being facetious of course, but still... wouldn't want to use it.
