i'm fairly new to the apple world, i got my MacBook pro, at the end of June.
I'm more familiar with Internet brand like yahoo or Google.
rom time to time we learn that those giant have acquired a start up.
Sometimes those statup are deeply integrated in the existing network: OddPost technologies in Yahoo Mail Neta
Sometimes they just run side by side: Del.icio.us next to Yahoo! Bookmarks
I was wondering if Apple had ever acquired some companies like that. Where can I find a list?
For example I would completely understand if Apple buys RapidWeaver and create iWeb 10 out of it
Also do you know who Apple might be more likely to acquire today?

Yep - iTunes started as an application called SoundJam from Cassady & Greene. All the CoverFlow stuff was also acquired. As Chuckit said, it'll probably be something small, multimedia-related that Apple sees a lot of potential in.

I'd love Apple to buy Pangaea and make them into the Apple Games division. While I'm dreaming, I'd also like a pony.

Has Pangea come out with anything lately?

Yep. Then Apple bought NeXT, turned NeXT's OS into Mac OS X and put Steve Jobs in charge again.

Pangea Software Games
I'd love to see Pangaea make a family-oriented shooter, based on squirt-guns or lazer-tag or snowball fights or something.

Is there a company worth acquiring anymore? Partnerships more likely.
All I know is that when Mac sales reach a point that year on year growth will become much less than the explosion right now that OS X will be licensed to one big name electronics company. Only that one company will get the license because Apple likes their products and wants a closer relationship with them for movies and music too. That company doesn't want to sell Microsoft products anymore.

Apple regularly buys pro audio and video products as well.
Final Cut Pro, Logic, Shake - all acquisitions, as well as a number of smaller spesific components now bundled within.
I'm kinda expecting Apple to integrate more 'groupware' - type of software products to Mac OS X server, so perhaps some small software company from that scene would be my bet

I have a hard time believing Apple will license OS X. I think the only way that will happen is when Steve leaves and Apple puts someone like Gil Amelio in his place. <shudder>

Apple is great about buying a smaller company, taking their hit program and dicing it up.
EXAMPLE: Emagic. They basically took their primary offering and diced it into a pro version (Logic Pro), a semi-pro version (Logic Express) and a consumer version (GarageBand).
It's brilliant on Apple's part.

They can't license it like last time. They will license it to one strategic partner and only when Mac sales growth slows down completely. There comes a point when growth will come down and remain steady but small. Then is the right time to earn licensing revenue by partnering with "that" major company. Everyone who was previously loyal to that company's brand will then be switched to OS X (Windows in Bootcamp naturally included). The rewards of the partnership would mean "that" company wouldn't have to license Windows any longer which means Microsoft will lose revenue that they use to promote the X Box 360 which competes against "that" company's console. Apple would reward said company with a cheap license compared to the cost of Windows. Apple would be rewarded in return by license revenue, larger software base and market share, and larger movies and music library to add to iTunes. Apple will also provide cutting edge support for said company's digital cameras and other devices and help promote them.

That would be nice. I recently bought a game from Garage Games called Think Tanks for my 6 year old son. It has no blood, gore, etc. but is a shooter with on-line competition if you want.
You drive these little tanks with brains on top (there is a weird story line to explain this), but you just try to shoot other tanks. They also have scrum and capture the flag games. It has a nice 3d engine with separate drive and turret/gun control, but fairly simple and easy to learn.
I have to say, I've started playing it at night and it is a lot of fun.
