The wife and I decided to jump on a good deal for a West Highland White Terrier last weekend, and here she is...

In about 6 more months, she'll look like this...

The wife named her Apple. Yes, I know...I know...

My mom is a clean freak, so I was never able to keep a dog while I was growing up. We had several, but they were all gone within a month.

I just didn't think that the dog would have to use the restroom ALL NIGHT LONG. She pounced on my face at about 4 in the morning. Nice surprise.

While I'm at it...anyone have any tips for potty-training?

House training puppies is pretty easy.
While untrained take the dog to the back door and let it out. Follow it around the yard and whenever it "goes" say a code word such as "get busy" and praise afterwards

After a day or so start saying the code phrase as you let the dog out. Everytime it goes after being let out and used the code word give it praise/treats.

After only a few days it will get the hang of it and you can let it ut to wee on command.

Don't punish any inside mistakes. That just confuses the dog

I was really hoping it was a pit bull.

This is exactly what we've been doing. I just wanted to get any and all opinions possible.

She's doing much better after 4 days, but we expect her to be doing well enough to not have to be monitored 24/7 in a few weeks.

Dachsund? Cute little guy...

And, oh yeah...my XTi is away being fixed, so I'm without a good camera for a while. The pictures were taken with a crappy little point-and-click Olympus. I'll have some better pics up soon.

I'm not even going to address the implications of the breed being a "weiner" dog.
