The Enquirer is reporting that Owen Wilson slashed his wrist and took pills in an attempt to end his life. The police dept doesn't provide as much detail.

Wilson was transported to St. John’s hospital in Santa Monica , Calif. on Sunday, August 26, by ambulance. Sources tell the ENQUIRER and Star that he sliced his left wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills.

Drugs aren't easy to come off of. And he was supposably a big drug user...

I know times when I was on opiates pretty heavily and tried to quit, I felt like offing myself a few times. But of course I'd never put myself in such a situation now.

I guess we all should learn from our mistakes, instead of letting them haunt us.

All we can do is offer our prayers to him and hope he makes a recovery, and finds some inner peace in his life.

p.s. I couldn't care less if he was famous or not, I hate seeing people in this morbid state.

I really hope he turns out okay. I'm a big Owen Wilson fan; one of the funniest guys in Hollywood, IMO. This is crazy.

Strange how the most successful people in the entertainment industry are some of the most troubled, isn't it?

Further proof that money and fame, as zipperzap said, are definitely not the answer.

I could still use some more money though.

He is a great actor. It is sad to see people with such great careers and bright futures ahead do things that threaten that future or their lives. I can understand though that drugs can mess with your head and destroy your life. I hope he gets the help he needs.

He is a good actor, but not very diverse. It seems like he's the same character in every movie with just a different name.

Is there anything confirmed about that? I saw nothing about him having any drug abuse history on Wikipedia, and from what I can tell, some radio talk show host just made an off-the-cuff assumption that drug abuse *could* be involved.

Does he have a public history of drug use/abuse, or is this just assumptions?

Maybe, maybe not. Celebrities may appear more troubled than normal only because they are in the public eye all the time.

There's actually quite a bit of truth to that statement.

I should've phrased it like this: even with all the money and fame that celebrities get, they still have the potential to be just as screwed up as your every-day drug addict living on the "wrong side of the tracks."

So sad… I hope he or anyone with such a bad issue can get into the right track… I always thought if a film about The Legend of Zelda was ever done, Owen was the right guy to play as Link.

Yes, definitely.... that´s something i would stay away as far as possible, especially working under high pressure.... too big a seduction to push your own abilities by giving that false energy boost.

I'm doing an internship at a drug treatment facility. I can assure you all (rich and poor alike) that money,status, and power have nothing to do with happiness. Even people who thought it was all they ever wanted -- got there and realized it wasn't.

I think they are saying now that its heroin and cocaine, which is not very good, especially for a recovering alcoholic.

A drug's level of harm is not only measured in it's addictive qualities and effects, but also in it's pervasiveness. The fact that cocaine is so widespread and normalised in the entertainment industry is what causes it to be a dangerous drug. Much like the widespread use of ice among teens and tweens in certain areas of the world.

The worst addiction is the one you have. That sounds trite but it's true.

We don't know for sure what his addiction problems are. He might primarily use one thing and occasionally another. He might be dependent, but he might just be abusing. It might be a 10 year pattern of addiction or it might be fairly fresh, induced by some event.

One thing is for sure, you won't know the truth unless he tells it.

Depends. Like someone here said, whatever you are addicted to at the moment is worse. It depends with each different person. I know people that can't make $20 worth of coke last 10 minutes. I know people that can make it last a week.

And he was also on heroin. So more than likely he was SHOOTING coke (speedballing.. coke heroin mixture ). Which is worse than smoking crack actually.

Yes but at the end, the can become the problem. Take drugs to relieve a say anxiety disorder. (illegal drugs) soon the amount you take has to be more and more. This also costs more. Now you are to a point where your anxiety is WORSE cause you are constantly worrying about either 1. coming off the drug, or 2. finding enough to keep you from withdrawing.

Then you just have enough to not get drug sick. AND your anxiety is twice as bad. So when you can't get off these drugs, the thing that made you take them in the first place is 10x worse.
