When we don't have to make a decision why do we so eagerly jump to conclusions without having all the information?

That is as rhetorical a question as it can get.

It's fun?

I'd personally like a Jump to Conclusions mat. Now that's a killer app if I ever saw one.

Is this an example of jumping to a conclusion?

I have to believe that it's a combination of things:lack of patience, energy and the self centeredness that we all know everything. We think that we know where someone is going with something so if we don't interupt them to tell them we know then we tune out to what they are saying cuz we are already there!

You mean like jumping to the conclusion that KIA will lose 20% of it's car sales with no actual information on the subject?

Oh, now you're just dissin' my attempted humor because you are only 14 years old with too much time on your hands and obviously spend too much time playing WoW in the basement and probably use a PC and spend the rest of your time posting to Mac forums in an attempt to be cool and, and, and... *

Yeah, it was a joke.

Why do people jump to conclusions?

It must be because they're all idiots!

Heh, heh, heh!!!

Not quite. I'd say that was NOT an example of jumping to a conclusion. I merely referred to the results of the poll results from that thread.

And, amazingly, neither is your post here an example of jumping to a conclusion. Reason being that the poll was available for you to read as well as anyone else and you failed to recognize I'd gotten the 20% figure from the poll results. FURTHERMORE, after you'd first brought up the specious charge I explained to you that I'd gotten the 20% figure from the poll results. And now you bring it up AGAIN!

And finally, I never said KIA would lose 20% of it's sales due to the association some people might make between the name KIA and the acronym, KIA (Killed in Action).

Yours is not a case of conclusion jumping but mental leaping without a parachute.

Without jumping to a conclusion, I'd guess that TV helped contribute to our tendency to jump to conclusions as well as shorten our attention spans.

Short attention span linked to TV

The more television infants and toddlers watch, the more likely they are to have trouble paying attention and concentrating during their early school years, a study reports Monday.

Although there has been other research on how many hours of TV very young kids watch, this is the first study on how early viewing might affect attention span.
[...]
But some experts are concerned. "This should be a wake-up call that we need to take a closer look at how early media use affects children," says Vicky Rideout of the Kaiser Family Foundation. "We know hardly anything about it."

Beacuse it is our first chance to appear smarter than someone else. Research takes away from this opportunity.

That's a REALLY good answer!!!!

No wonder! You're a Patriots Fan!!!

Without seeming to slam you or anyone here, it's like a Loser's Lottery. Can't hit the jackpot any other way but if they jump in before the facts come in they are Queen/King for a day-week-month-???

That is so heart warmingly pathetic.

It's better than jumping to one's death.
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.
