I was hoping for some info on LOST.

What are the odds that not one survivor had a powerbook?

Jumbo, where'd you go (while your Mac was languishing in the shop) and where is home? There are things to do in Michigan that can take your mind off of not having your computer.

It's a bit frightening that you are this emotionally attached to a computer.

That's a bridge ride that one remembers! I've gone across it twice in my life, and it has stuck with me some 30 years later. Late summer, clear skies, nice weather, and new places to see-I sure miss those trips.

Of course where I grew up (in the Downriver area), anything past about Pontiac is considered "up north." And in Monroe, even Detroit is "up north."

some say north of 69. some say north of the zilwaukee bridge. some say north of standish. some say north of grayling or gaylord.

rubbish!

i'm not up north until i pass the bridge speaking of which, the episode of Dirty Jobs about the bridge was awesome. some of those shots i'd love to pay for a chance to see them in-person.

Guilty. But the converse is that someone born north of the bridge is a Yooper-and we're not even going to go there!

The Mackinac Bridge Authority has a "Drivers Assistance Program" that provides drivers for those uncomfortable with driving across the Mackinac Bridge.
Are the people of Michigan pansies or something? That bridge is only five miles long.

Ive crossed that thing hundreds of times.. in small dodge omni's and trucks and whatnot.. never been scared once.. The cool thing is if you walk the bridge you can feel it move under your feet..

Mike Rowe from dirty jobs did an episode on painting the bridge..

And No people from michigan arent pansies..

The Mackinac Bridge is the third longest suspension bridge in the world, and the longest in the Western Hemisphere. It's about 200 feet off the water in the middle, and there are some hellacious winds through the Mackinac Straits, so out there with nothing between you and the wind but some heavy cables, it can get "interesting." Read it all here.

Wow...
It is possible that the deck at center span could move as much as 35 feet (east or west) due to high winds.

I am spending Labor Day weekend in a small town near Traverse City. They call out-of-towners "fudgies". So, I'll be a "fudgie" for a few days. Just thought I'd throw that out there for you all.

My family used to spend our summer vacations in that viscinity-Torch Lake, Bellaire, Mancelona, Kalkaska... Gorgeous area. And lots of touristy kinds of places, which is probably where the "fudgies" thing comes from.

I used to live in Traverse City and worked as a bouncer for about a year at Streeters. Which small town are you going to?

I haven't done the bridge walk myself in about 15 years. Found new things to do on the Labor Day holiday.

Don't think I ever went up that way. I had went to Suttons Bay, Omena and another small town up there a few times.
