I just came from a trip where I saw some relatives I haven't seen in a while. The usual hugs where exchanged. I don't know but I never really like doing this. It just seems really uncomfortable even with people I'm close to like parents, grandparents and siblings. Anyone else?

I'm not big on hugging. Unless I'm drunk.

No I think its a nice way to show you care.

I've been known to hug family members and friends

It seems this society (at least in the north east) has gotten to the point that its difficult to show affection. I've seen people make a handshake look awkward, never mind a hug.

A good compromise is to put out your hand to shake, grasp their hand, and pull them in so that their left shoulder touches your right - more contact than a handshake, less than a hug.

I quite like it when the hugee has enormous breasts.

Otherwise, I'm not really into physical contact. I might lose some of my mojo through osmosis or something.

Give it a f**king rest! Why should we have to suffer just because you aren't getting laid?

He can't stop going on about breasts. It's a broken record, and it's beginning to creep me out.

We all need hugs.

And no, I'm not embarrassed with man hugs or woman hugs, close friends or family, etc.

But that may be culture specific, some cultures abhor physical contact unless you're married to the person you're hugging. I dunno.

A question was asked. That's the answer. Am I supposed to modify a truthful answer just because you're so stupid you haven't found the ignore list yet?

I only like to hug other men... and then only if they have a large penis...

But seriously, hugging is fine in my book.

I'm with ya. Hugging really bothered me for a while - but it all depended on the person whom I was hugging. I think I'm a little more receptive to hugs now. Hug? Free hug anyone?

I don't mind hugging at all. I just saw a guy I hadn't seen in five years (we used to work together, and do again), and I shook his hand and then we hugged. I hug family members all the time, even though I'm not particularly close to my siblings.

hugging is great.
as long as you're relaxed and ok with it, it's not awkward at all. if you have any hesitation or concerns (for example, about whether or not this person wants a hug, or if you're hugging too tightly, etc.) then things will feel a bit off. once you get past that phase, the hugging is all good.

cept from your creepy Uncle Walt. that's never ok.

I have a bunch of friends from South America, Chile and Peru. You will get hugged, so deal with it. Not only will you get hugged, you'll also get kissed. By strangers.

Hugs are cool but I still feel awkward with the kissing on the cheek thing, especially since Brits and Aussie each go for a different cheek first.

It's only awkward if you feel awkward.

The question I have is, why do you find human contact awkward?

I actually believe one day we'll have individual force fields, surrounding us in a tingly germ and contact free cocoon.

Anyway it's all contextual. There are people and places where you hug, and/or do the kiss kiss thing, and others where it's a nod of the head and a "Hey".

But there are some people who can't help it.

I decided this summer to embrace my social awkwardness and instead of feeling left out, make situations awkward for other people too. It great.

That happens to me sometimes when I'm hugging a younger person, in which case I discreetly dispense with the hugging and simply dry-hump their leg instead.

Nothing wrong with a firm handshake.

Yeah, that's why God invented younger people - they are for older people to dry hump.

Everyone around here hugs. When you go to a party the guys shake hands but with girls it was always a hug. And with my friends we hug. I'm ok with hugging others.d

Some do, but not from every city. Have to check but I think it was Sydneysiders were same as UK but other Aussies were from the left, or vice versa. Always confused me so I just wait for the gal to head in first then move quickly.
