Sure, this is geeky, but for the life of me, I LOVE finding outdated Macs and updating them via software update. Today, I found a system running OS 10.4.3, and it took me nearly an hour updating everything... but after it was all updated, it just seemed like all was right in the world.

Am I the only one that experiences this joy.

P.S. It was a friends computer

The G4 I use in work has iTunes 4, iTunes has come on a lot since version 4 .

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

Ha ha... actually have one.

I guess I just feel like everything must be in order, and if it's running anything "old" it's just so simple to update. I don't understand why everyone just doesn't do it on a regular basis (I'm talking about the regular people out there).

Oh well... I was just wondering if anyone else enjoyed the same.

I'm sure he meant a real one, not one only on Skype.

Sorry; couldn't resist.

I would be cautious about updating business or production machines. They may have been left on an earlier version so as to not break a critical application.

and seriously, 10.4.6 was the sweet spot in the 10.4 series. 10.4.10 broke sound, there had to be a sound patch... Some machines may be left well enough alone, as reader50 indicates above.

Surprise updates when it isn't your machine is not a welcome surprise.

Yeah, talk to the owner about this before you do them a favor they may not want.

10.4.3 is from nearly two years ago, it wasn't a production machine... also, the security updates alone are rather critical IMHO (not life or death, but MANY things have been tightened up in the past two years. Quicktime, iTunes, etc. etc. etc.

I obviously warned to owner of the dangers, but I've never had a major issue with any Apple updates (I usually wait a few days before jumping on an update). It's also still under warranty.

It wasn't like I just walked up to a random computer, sitting in the server room of some place, and started updating. I've been working with computers too long for that...

I still have 10.4.6 running on my Power Mac. It's the best.
