I just got this "second chance offer" on a sealed 17" 2.4GHz MBP that I was about the 20th highest bidder on. The price offered to me (which was the amount I bid) is $1k less than the winning bid. The seller is registered on 9/4/2007 on ebay with zero feedback. There's no specification on shipping or payment terms, but the "seller" ships worldwide from TX. The second chance offer is through ebay. Paypal is the only payment method listed. As a test, I sent the seller a question asking if I could buy two of these at this price, because the seller claimed in the auction description s/he had the Apple store receipt for warranty purpose. But what do I have to lose if I pay with a cc through paypal?

If you do it, I think Paypal has fraud protection, which would be a good idea.

99% chance this is a scam.

Nobody sells multiple brand new Macbooks for $ 1k less than regular price.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Yes, it is too good to be true. Too many "that's odd" items there. Pay a reasonable price and get what you want.

Most of the second chance offers on eBay are scams. eBay even mentions this in their spam reporting section. The easiest way to tell if it's a scam is if the person offering the second chance offer isn't the same person who listed the original auction. You can't make a valid second chance offer if you aren't the original lister.

As always, the German police is clueless.

but police believe that if they failed to catch the latest turtle escapee it will not survive through the winter when the lake freezes over.
And how do they survive winter here in the US ?

So what do they do? Hibernate on land, or spend winter frozen in the ice?

They hibernate at the bottom of the lake or river. The bottom doesn't freeze, given a certain minimum depth.

Like I said in another eBay thread. If there is even an OUNCE of question in my mind about an auction. I pass. No question.

It's not worth the amount of work you'll have to do to get your money back and resolve the issue.

It's a scam, based on an eBay API exploit.

heise online - Betr?esen eBay-Kundendatenbank aus

Don't have any links in English, but the scam works EXACTLY like you described it.
