Is it Sick to Want to Fight Ignorant People?

There are people who I know are just ignorant and not necessarily evil. But nonetheless I want to kick their asses.

Is that sick?

Shouldn't I feel compassion for them?

It depends on what they are being ignorant about, no? Can you provide us some examples?

You are no gentleman, Karolyn. But you are ignorant. So, yes, I would push in your stool. Push it real good.

Fight ignorance or fight ignorant people? The former is a rational response the latter is ignorant.

Just remember that we're all, even you, ignorant some of the time. So be gentle.

Abe, throw us some red meat here, or else this thread will amount to little more than silly banter.

I prefer to hate people that are ignorant + arrogant.

If someone is just ignorant it may not be their fault.
Someone may be arrogant, but it's okay as long as they're more smarterer than everyone else.

I've only been in one or two "fights" in my life, and I always felt like the ignorant one afterwards.

That's not to say that I don't wish balls of lightning to fry a few people every now and then.

When one is insecure and feels threatened by others' positions, one often tends to want to resolve the issue through violence, as they feel they've been put against a wall and they can't persuade the other party of the viability of their position via normal communications, so they think that beating it into them will make them victorious. It doesn't work, but that's not the point anyway.

It´s not sick to "fight" ignorance, but most of the times it´s not making sense and not helping the slightest bit.

Especially in Internet forums it is a waste of time that may get on your nerves quite often...

Here's the thing about the Internet. Remember that annoying kid in High School who was a social misfit, and wasn't even that smart, so didn't fit in with the geeks either? The one who got on everyone's nerves? There was one of those people in every high school class, everywhere, for as far back as there was high school. They were universally despised and ignored, because if anyone spent any time talking to them, these people thought they had a new friend and pestered them until they coundn't stand it anymore. Many of them grew up and became tolerable members of society. But not all of them.

Every single one of the remainder is on the Internet, they all post in your threads, and their sole purpose in life is to annoy you.

These stupid people outnumber you on the Internet. But if you ignore them, they'll just go on and annoy the next person who gives them any attention. So fighting them is pointless, unless you're one of these people too and crave the attention.

Some people are more than happy with their own ignorance-others are absolutely smug about it. I gave up trying to educate them a long time ago. When it gets to the point that their ignorance gets in my way, I am often sarcastic and crass to them; in general, at age 10 my son was far more aware of the world and less ignorant the way many people are, and I point this out to them. Maybe they feel I've slighted them, in which case they'll stay away from me and we're both happier. They always know that I've bested them at something that they could have been better at. I usually feel like crap for abusing an idiot, but that passes pretty quickly.

What I am thinking is that some people go off 'half-cocked' and assume they know what is being said but instead of verifying what they may not understand, they just proceed under a false assumption. Then it takes time and effort to disabuse them of their misunderstanding.

And then when these ignorant people are presented the truth and they resist acknowledging it and fail to do their homework and they call me ignorant it makes me really angry.
