Is it really a comeback?

Video is kind of...er...lame?

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Somewhere, Kevin Federline is laughing. An out-of-shape, out-of-touch Britney Spears delivered what was destined to be the most talked about performance of the MTV Video Music Awards—but for all the wrong reasons.

Kicking off the show Sunday night with her new single, "Gimme More," Spears looked bleary and unprepared, much like her recent tabloid exploits on the streets of Los Angeles. She walked through her dance moves with little enthusiasm. She appeared to have forgotten the art of lip-synching. And, perhaps most unforgivable given her once-taut frame, she looked embarrassingly out of shape.

Even the celebrity-studded audience seemed bewildered. 50 Cent looked at Spears with a confused look on his face; Diddy, her new best friend, was expressionless.

Some comeback. Breathlessly hyped by MTV as the evening's most anticipated performance, it became the most shockingly bad of the night. Jive Records might want to push back that Nov. 13 album release date.

It's just a bunch of egos making asses out of themselves now adays.

CHrist, I knew what this was about without clicking the thread.

From what I read, she mailed it in pretty egregiously.

I suppose it *is* in shape. A pear shape.

I'll let you off though. You're prolly so used to seeing the saggy bags of lard hanging out at the local Tesco while you're shopping that your perceptions of "fat bird" have prolly been somewhat readjusted.

For someone who (despite her general suckiness and crappiness) did use to be quite an energetic and lively dancer (she had to have something to make up for that noise she calls a voice/music), that does indeed seem in quite bad shape. She barely moves, just wiggles about a bit—even I can do that, and I’m in terrible shape.

I wouldn’t exactly call her a ‘fat chick’ (then again, Doofy does have a certain fondness of domestic cleaning utensils*), but compared to the wasp waist and taut tummy she used to sport, she certainly looks a lot more—how shall I put this?—natural in that clip.

[*Broomsticks, that is. I wasn’t implying Doofy is a vacuum-cleanerophile.]

If you think your wife, or if you ever get married to a woman, will have the same body she had before the kid you are in for a surprised.

Unless you plan on shelling out thousands and thousands of dollars on surgery. And even then it's STILL not the same.

But it shouldn't really matter. And if it does, then you really don't love that person.

Having said that, I would never date or be with someone that was dangerously fat. That CAN be helped. And my reasons aren't superficial.

But seriously guys, REAL women do not look like 90% of the pics most of you jerk it too. Some people really set themselves up for a big upset when they set standards so high.

And then give people complexes.

Britney's not "out of shape." She's just not what she was at 17. I would (not) like to see what the members of MacNN look like half naked. I'm sure they're all just sexy beasts.

The problem is that Britney is a mother of two, prancing around mostly naked, KNOWING (hopefully) that her post-childbirth body isn't as flattering as it once was, generally making herself look like a skank. I think that's what most people are laughing at, but it's really more depressing than laughable.

People who are celebrities at a young age never turn out sane.

I think guys worldwide looking at porn 24/7 on the Internet sets them up for a dissatisfied marriage the vast majority of the time. They enter into relationships expecting something that is FAKED (no, not the sex...the attitudes).

99.9% of women are NOT going to look like supermodels, nor should they be expected to. The psychological effects of porn on men (and women) are more damaging than people like to admit. I really can't stand it when people call it "healthy" to watch porn from time to time, especially when I've seen several marriages broken up because of husbands who developed an addiction to the stuff, and then became more and more dissatisfied with their wives, who were in fact trying everything within their means to satisfy them.

One could also argue that Britney is (and has always been) a talentless skank who should never have been a celebrity (at any age). That might have done her sanity some good; it would certainly have benefited the sanity of the world in general.

I really can't stand it when people call it "healthy" to watch porn from time to time, especially when I've seen several marriages broken up because of husbands who developed an addiction to porn.
The fundamental difference is between “from time to time” and “addiction”. It’s also (currently) considered healthy to have a glass of wine from time to time; yet I’ve seen several marriages broken up (violently, more often than not) because of husbands or wives who developed addictions to alcohol.

I can’t see anything wrong with watching porn from time to time, as long as the viewer is aware and able to distinguish that (s)he’s not watching the real world, but actors playing parts, and that (s)he can’t expect the real world to be like it.

The key is to stop looking at her like she's still going for that "plaid-skirted-schoolgirl lolita" persona. Now that she's popped a couple of kids out, she's clearly re-vamped her act to go for the highly-popular MILF image.

Yeah.. again porn also feeds a false view of what sex actually is.

And you know, chicks just love *** on their face, and you spitting a wad on their girly parts.

It gets them hot.

I couldn't really judge a person like that unless I've been in the boots that they've tread in.

I know I've been no angel in my life. Probably done 10x worse things than that gal has. I've just never had cameras around me 24.7

Do you have a Jawbone list laying around somewhere that you refer to for these posts? And I'm not faking, just withholding out of courtesy for my wife. She tolerates my game system "problem," so I owe her at least one favor.

Except that in each case I'm referring to, the men came into the marriages with a history of being deep into porn, either from when they were younger or right up until the marriages.

No, something like that sticks out in my mind. Farting is a humorous subject. Well, except in this case. (apologies)

Hey, I'm not saying its fair, I'm just saying its something perfectly natural and to be expected from another human being.

So if these guys had such unreal expectations from porn, why did they get married to a non-model in the first place? (That, in the end, may be a cultural answer, rather than one of attraction)

Hmm... works fine for most people around here, as far as I know. I know plenty of people in healthy relationships who don’t let porn influence their relationships, but see it for what it is: movies.

I couldn't really judge a person like that unless I've been in the boots that they've tread in.

I’m not saying anything about her as a person, apart from the fact that I definitely think her celebrity has had a very negative effect on some formative stages of her live. Young celebrities do have a sad tendency to end up rather screwed up at one point or another.

I’m just saying that Britney Spears has no talent and no claim to fame, whatsoever. Like Paris Hilton, she doesn’t deserve fame (for good and bad), she just got it for nothing. And it would (probably—we’ll never know) have been better for all involved if she hadn’t. I know my ears would have been grateful.

(P.S.: Past participle of ‘tread’ is ‘trodden’—sorry to be a pedant, but it breaks my heart to see good old strong verbs being forced into weak submission )

I'm trying to ease her into my family's ways. Evidently no one in her family farts (except her dad). So 3 of the 5 farts have come in the last month. At least she laughed at the last one, but I think it's because it scared my dog (who is getting better, by the way).

I think you answered it yourself. Cultural.

This might be opening up a whole new can of worms, but it seems that many Christian guys who practice abstinence develop problems with pornography during their teenage years. I personally believe it's because the church is very good at teaching abstinence, but does a horrible job at helping understand the possible ramifications of pornography. It seems like the church kind of turns a blind eye to it and pretends that it doesn't exist among their youth.

Therefore, a lot of Christian guys who are desperate to finally act out these things they're obsessing over (mostly found on the Internet) marry a good Christian girl and have certain unrealistic, and possibly warped, expectations of what their married life is going to be like. I think the desire to have sex and live out these fantasies drives a lot of them to marry prematurely. I've seen this happen.

This is just a theory of mine, but it makes sense, IMO.

Then that's different than pretending it doesn't happen at all.

Aside from her image, it was a bit disturbing to see that she had trouble moving around the stage.

Misinterpreted.

It's as if the church is saying, "Premarital sex is destructive, but we're not going to give you the tools to have a healthy sex life when you're married by talking openly about pornography and other sexual issues."

If they don't address realistic sexual issues, then it's going to be nearly impossible to stave off premarital sex in a religious system that's already having severe difficulties in successfully encouraging its youth to abstain. The world is hundreds of times more openly sexual than it was 100 years ago, but the church has been slow to respond; so slow that it's been rendered nearly impotent in the face of cultural change.

Yelling from pulpits doesn't solve the problem. It's practical teaching at home that has been neglected.

Christian parents encourage abstinence, but don't have a problem with them watching TV shows and movies that almost always portray premarital sex and free love lifestyles as healthy and appropriate, while at the same time allowing unrestricted access to the Internet because they can't imagine THEIR little angel developing a bestiality fetish.
The bestiality comment might have been slightly exaggerative.

I forgot about that. Didn't they actually just start "holding each other" in an intimidating fashion? I remember laughing at the description of the "fight."

If they were really that bad, wouldn't someone start swinging at some point?

I'm going to let this be it, because this doesn't need to become a debate on the pros and cons of abstinence.

The important part is you've acknowledged that these people you know are developing porn addictions because they've been taught to handle their emotions poorly, not because of the porn itself.

I hate porn (love nudies, which is not porn) but I fail to see what that's got to do with fat birds attempting to dance around on stage.

And while we're at it, can anyone tell me what bits of the Bible I need to be looking at which condone pre-marital canoodlings? Since I haven't been able to find any yet, I'll assume that it's a cultural thing... ...like the ban on polygyny.

Certainly fair enough.

I didn't really intend for the post to become as long as it did. This isn't really the place for it, considering I can only address the issue from a perspective that isn't shared by the majority of the people on this board. Not worried about that; it's just the way things are.

Doofy, I'm going to require a definition for "canoodlings"
