I'll second the observations. I have a friend who was raised by very strict Christian parents, and I know had problems with porn (because he told me...talk about awkward). He found a girl that liked him, got married at 19 against the advice of our church's pastors (they had to get her grandpa to do the ceremony) and now he's mostly depressed.

The implication is that an unmarried person simply isn't having sex, because that was the culture at the time. If you're actually interested in learning more about this, pick up Sex God by Rob Bell. If you're not, by all means continue arguing here.

I don't really take any notice of Paul on matters of canoodling, since I reckon he was pretty much a complete whack job with such things. Repression will do that to a man.

Back in the day (we're talking late 80's metal scene), every chick would be way slimmer than The Lard. OK, so maybe one or two exceptions in a nightclub of 2,500 people but they were a statistically insignificant anomaly. What's happened since then is loads of fat enablers and fat advocacy groups have tainted the "realistic" female body image with a chubbier-than-needs-be template.

It's not "fat slapper" any more, it's "BBW". Thus the ridicule which would drive most to keep a trim figure no longer exists and it's all good - women can now shove all the cake they like into their faces and nobody bothers them except the folks who compile national obesity statistics.

So, IMO, it's not how "unrealistic" the body image ideal has become, but how much the "realistic" body image ideal has slipped into cake and chocolate land.

It's actually true dude. Why do you think they keep going on about rising obesity rates? They're rising rates, so folks are getting fatter. As folks get fatter, your perception of what's normal gets fatter too.

Actually, due to some stuff I've gone through in the past year I was leaning more toward your side. But a combination of reading Sex God and A Return to Modesty by Wendy Shalit really did change the way I thought about a few things.
