Straight from the Apple Terms of Use

All text, graphics, user interfaces, visual interfaces, photographs, trademarks, logos, sounds, music, artwork and computer code (collectively, “Content”), including but not limited to the design, structure, selection, coordination, expression, “look and feel” and arrangement of such Content, contained on the Site is owned, controlled or licensed by or to Apple, and is protected by trade dress, copyright, patent and trademark laws, and various other intellectual property rights and unfair competition laws.

Except as expressly provided in these Terms of Use, no part of the Site and no Content may be copied, reproduced, republished, uploaded, posted, publicly displayed, encoded, translated, transmitted or distributed in any way (including “mirroring”) to any other computer, server, Web site or other medium for publication or distribution or for any commercial enterprise, without Apple’s express prior written consent.
Does that mean I can't post a picture of the iPhone on a blog? Or say "Apple" or "iPhone". Its just so harmless...

If your blog is not commercial, I think you are safe.

If you start making money with Apple's pics, or use their trademarks in your products, you'd be looking for trouble.

No, it doesn’t. It means you can’t use any of Apple’s own iPhone pictures on your blog. If you take a picture of your iPhone, you are of course fully entitled to post it on your blog.

And you’re never prohibited from saying or writing the name of a trademarked/copyrighted brand/model/object/thing; only from using it as a name for something you endeavour upon yourself, so to speak. If you wanted to establish a phone company called iPhone, that would result in Apple’s lawyers having a nice big lunch with you as main course, but referring to the iPhone as an Apple product is, of course, not against any rules.

Yes, you can if those pictures are published by Apple's PR department for the use in articles and press releases.

I remember sometime in the '90s Oprah supposedly copyrighted her name in hopes that it would stop tabloids. Of course, that would only stop the tabs from calling themselves "Oprah."

To stay in that analogy, you could NOT create a musical called "Phantom of the Oprah"

Awesome guys, thanks. Now another question.
A school is giving away an iPhone to the winner of a video contest. Problem is, its so hidden in the site, no one knows where it is. I'm posting it in this blog, which the whole school has access to, in hopes people will actually know the event is going on. Would this be promoting the iPhone, or breaking the Usage Agreement in any way?

Ah, of course; those are published under a different license than the other Apple pictures, right?

Don't post it. Be the only entry and win the contest yourself.

No, it’s simply linking to a site that promotes a competition (whether that competition violates any UAs in any way is their headache, not yours).

But do take Laminar’s advice, it’s much better.

Dude, please do some research yourself. I've posted the links.

There is an "Image Use Agreement" for each pciture, read through it, it will tell you what you can and can't do.

If you are not sure, write Apple's PR department and ask for permission.
