Jessi and I will be in Illinois from the 22nd to the 30th. We need a car (non negotiable, we'll be way out in the middle of nowhere 2+ hours from the city). We're both under 25 (though we'll both be turning 25 in October ). Is there any particularly cheap way that we could get a car? Ideally we'd pick it up and drop it off at the airport, but something else can probably be arranged if necessary.

I usually just go with Alamo, because I've had good experiences with them in the past, but this time renting from Alamo will cost us $574.51 so any sense of brand loyalty I might normally have felt is not involved here. Hell, I could probably buy some POS Ford off Craigslist for less than that.

Enterprise was the company I used before turning 25 - they seem to offer the same rate, despite being too young for the other companies.

Just checked their site - they have cars @ Midway airport from $146/week for people aged 21-24.

Nice, I'll check it out. Thanks.

Edit:
Weird, apparently they charge more out of Ordway... $208/week for a total of $392.15. Getting the car at Midway it would only cost us $339.05. So probably worth it to pay for the added convenience of Ordway.

Can anyone beat $392.15?

In New York State, it is illegal to deny a rental car to renters under 25. But it is perfectly legal to soak them dry. When I was under 25 I rented cars locally a few times. Every rental company except Enterprise wanted to tack on an insane insurance surcharge, even though I had a rental-car insurance rider on my car insurance policy and could decline the CDW. Now I always call Enterprise first when I need a car, even though I haven't been 25 for quite a while.

Also, renting at an airport will generally be more expensive, since there are more taxes and fees associated with rental car sites at airports. But the sites at the airport generally stay open if your flight comes in late....
