Actually, in all seriousness, I think Yahoo's free email service is one of the better ones. For one, unless they've discontinued this, they offer IMAP access. IMAP access is far nicer than POP access, although it is more resource expensive (which is why it isn't a more common option). Yahoo also doesn't mine your data like Google does, AFAIK (or, at least this hasn't been widely publicized).
The problem with all of these free email apps is that they want to own your data. I would never choose Hotmail, because AFAIK Hotmail doesn't offer POP or IMAP access for accessing my data, and they certainly don't provide a contacts or mail export in their web interface.
Beware of lock in.
I'm also not really sure how Yahoo makes money these days in light of how big Google has become.
