Welcome. I'm not sure I understand what you mean - you have a user account on your father's computer? What sort of 'tricks' are you looking for?

Your dad can keep you locked out of the computer with a firmware password.

That was the sort of tricks you were looking for, right?

Repeatedly asking for help to break into his dad's computer. When his dad (who owned the computer) had specifically locked him out.

I didn't see that in the rules. Is this another one of the unwritten rules of MacNN club™?

Very good. [see edit]But that's a picture the Jehovah Witnesses use to show how peaceful it will be when Jesus returns.[/see edit]

I'm a bit surprised that it isn't in the rules in some general fashion, except for the About Moderation section. But it's definitely in the common-sense column. Asking for help to crack someone else's computer is really shaky ground to begin with. When that someone is your parent that has gone to enough trouble to lock at the firmware level, things are definitely headed south. Then re-asking repeatedly while getting warnings from other members and myself. Then PM'ing me asking again for help with the cracking.

Presumably, the dad had good reason to lock his computer. The OP obviously had access to some kind of browser, in order to post here. Presumably something limited, to keep him/her out of trouble. We don't know the circumstances, but we do know the kid didn't own the computer and was specifically locked out of it. Warnings from various members weren't doing the trick, and s/he appears to be underaged, but didn't register as a COPPA user with the parent's permission. Banning was the only effective method to shut things down, before someone slipped up and told him/her what they wanted to know.

At which point we would have helped ... what happen? I have no idea. The kid might be hot for some free music downloads. Or something else that could get Daddy into legal trouble to the tune of thousands of dollars. Or maybe the kid likes to chat with spammers. Whatever the case, parents are in charge of their children, and this one had locked down his computer. Allowing this to proceed would have been wrong.
