So, today the DoofMobile required new tyres.
I phone the dealership. $981.56 for the four.
Dealer tells me that they don't change tyres on-site, but rather sub-contract it.
So I phone the nearest couple of tyre places to the dealer. Manage to get the one the dealer uses. $814.12
Don't you wish you had a job where you got $167.44 for doing two minutes paperwork?

I'm impressed that you were able to find a place that both sells 'tyres' rather than 'tires' and uses dollars as their currency.

Car Dealerships are the Devil. I hate them with the passion like the heat of a thousand burning suns. I do not wish I were a dealership because that would mean I was ripping people off.
Yes, I am bitter.

I recently had a tire blow on me, first time ever, on a country road in middle of Nowheresville, Ontario. One of these babies is $250 if I'm lucky. Limp to the nearest country tire shop, big truck and tractor tires outside, a workshop, three lifts. Guys with baseball caps in blue overalls fixing up pickups and combine harvesters.
Owner takes one look at my tire, strips it and tells me that he can fix it no problem. Drills out the damage, puts a plug in it, does something or other, hands me a lifetime guarantee on the repair and sends me on my way. Cost me $35.00 including tax.

Wow... Apparently some people pay a lot for tires.
I went for a set Goodyear Integrities a few months back for $240 with installation and tax.

Yes, what set of tires goes for $800? (is that including UK VAT? Even without VAT those are DAMN expensive)
My father needed a new set of tires for his car in Greece (1986 SEAT something-or-other), and he paid € 145 for the "middle of the road" set. He could have gotten "top of the line" for € 180, but decided that given the age of the car the extra money would be wasted.

Good grief, I thought my car's $600 tires were pricey.

That is why I buy small economy cars. 14"/15" tires are cheap. $250-500 depending on quality for ALL 4.
I tend to go through them quickly though. I tend to like STICKIER tires.. and those don't last as long.

Yeah, my last set of 4 (for a Camery) were about $480, and I was not thrilled.

So, what is the DoofMobile, and what size tyres does it take?

I am seriously considering the diesel version as our next car. We have a house in the middle of the snow belt - we get a LOT of snow there - and we frequently haul loads of antique furniture so the Jeep would be perfect. Plus I could run it on bio diesel an still be a hippy.

Make sure it has the Quadra-Drive if you're into the white stuff.
